Ethiopia: 10 youth-based associations found Federation to leapfrog growth, tackle common challenges
Addis Ababa – Young men and women active under youth-based associations in Addis Ababa on Saturday founded a federation to beef up their strength.
The founding of the federation came about here at the National Lottery hall on Saturday in which 10 youth-based associations joined forces towards meeting their common agenda in the social, economic and political fields and tackle their challenges.
The federation embraces regional branch associations, higher learning institutions, student councils and clubs as well as the Addis Ababa Youth League and the city’s youth associations, among others.
The founding meeting also saw endorsement of the federation’s article of association and the election of execs.
In his message delivered through his representative, Mayor Kuma Demeksa expressed support to the new federation in its endeavors for change and growth.
The statement read out by Leulseged Yifru, the special adviser to the mayor on public organization, encourages the youth to strive towards the realization of all-rounded change embarked on full-swing in the city and towards social growth and development.
The Mayor’s statement also indicated that the mayoralty built youth centers, sports quarters and libraries that have gone operational within each of the sub-cities. “Numerous young men and women have benefited from engagement in micro- and small-scale businesses.”
“The level of youth participation in good governance efforts in the city today is unprecedented,” said Mayor Kuma’s statement, which also contains a pledge to make the youth beneficiaries of ever-widening opportunities.
The youthful population in the city stands at more than 1.2 million.
