Abbay Media – Ginbot 7 movement reported on Saturday 30th May 2009 in their radio broadcast to Ethiopia, that the movement’s members and officers from the Ethiopian army have crossed the border into Eritrea. They also said that these new developments are the direct result of the latest wave of abductions following last month’s alleged Ginbot 7 coup plot accusation.

Due to the sensitivity of the issue, Ginbot 7 had swiftly sent a delegation to meet with the new arrivals. The number of the military officers and Ginbot 7 Members who arrived in Eritrea has not yet been disclosed.

Abbay Media has learned that the recent report by Ethiopian Review regarding the purpose of Ginbot 7 delegation visit to Eritrea is totally misleading and irresponsible.

When claiming to be a pro democracy Ethiopian media, specially at a critical point of the struggle against repression and dictatorship such as now, publishing personal wishful assumptions base on a tip off will be damaging to our struggle. Irresponsible reporting which informs or give hints to Meles Zenawi’s TPLF regime on activities by organizations such as Ginbot 7 movement, whom are waging a multi faced struggle is tantamount to treason by indirectly collaborating with the enemy.

A well organized movement which has its own public relations team, its own Web site, News Paper and Radio transmission to Ethiopia, will have to inform the public on all its activities in due time, only when considered helpful to the struggle.

It should be understood the level of sensitivity in the timing of announcing news such as an escape by members of any organization and any military officers with various ranks from the jaws of TPLF and also the timing of the news on subsequent travel by a delegation from the diaspora to meet the new arrivals.

Starting from April 24th 2009, using the pretext of coup plot, the TPLF regime has intensified it’s ethnic cleansing of the Ethiopian army to fully replace the top brass of the military leadership with members of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. A recent report(now available in English) by Ginbot 7 has clearly shown the level of this ethnic cleansing and the sad reality currently present within the Ethiopian (TPLF) armed force.

Alongside the purging of non Tigreans from within the army and the police force, the TPLF regime has also been targeting various civilians from different walks of life, whom they considers as a threat to their misrule.

The past few weeks, reports have been coming out from Ethiopia, mainly from Gondar, Gojam, Shewa and Wollo, the setting up of military check points along the main high roads, the blocking of telephone connections and the mass round ups of hundreds of civilians, military officers and their families, by simply using the pretext of being members of Ginbot 7’s movement.

In a related news, the Holland Ginbot 7 public meeting held yesterday by Ginbot 7’s leader Dr Berhanu Nega was successfully conducted. In the final leg of the month long public meeting in major European cities, the last event is scheduled to take part today 31st May 2009 in London, UK at The London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB starting from 2pm, check event Flyer for more information.
