Ethiopia: Farmers make 4m birr from sale of honey
Bahir Dar – Farmers in two woredas of West Gojam Zone of Amhara State have secured four million birr from the sale of honey over the last nine months, the respective woreda agriculture and rural development offices said.
The Bure’s and Kuarit’s offices told ENA that the stated sum was obtained from the sale of 168,000 kg honey.
Over 2,000 farmers have secured more than 3.3 million birr from the sale of 132,900 kg honey from Bure woreda.
Similarly, from Quarit woreda over 35,000 kg honey was collected. Over 1,987 farmers have participated in the honey production and have secured over 842,400 birr.
The participation of farmers in apiary has been growing in the woredas. Farmers have managed to secure up to 10,000 birr individually, the offices said.
