Ambassador Sahle-work Zewde has been nominated as Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peace Building Support Office in the Central African Republic (BONUCA) by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.
BONUCA Office will be succeeded by the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office (BINUCA).
The nomination of Ambassador Sahle-work is attributed to her long experience working in conflict prevention and peace building activities in the African Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Ambassador Sahle-work brings to this position years of experience in the African Union’s initiatives in conflict prevention and peace buildings as a representative of her country to the AU Peace and Security Council, the Ministry’s statement said.
She has been involved in deliberations on the situation in the Central African Republic and she has a deep understating of the close partnership of the United Nations and the AU in resolving conflicts as well as in peace building efforts in Africa.
Sahle-work would be the second woman to be appointed as a Special Representative by the Secretary-General and would replace François Fall.
Ambassador Sahle-work has over 20 years of diplomatic service as Ambassador.
