C Tigray Zone, Axum -More than 19,000 farmers are developing 1,476 hectares land in Laelay Maichew Woreda, Central Tigray Zone through irrigation, woreda administration said.
Woreda Chief, Shiferaw Fiseha told ENA on Sunday that the farmers are developing the stated area of land by harnessing rivers and using water wells.
Shiferaw said 30 per cent of the farmers are women.
He said the farmers are expected to secure 122 million Birr income from sale of 159,000 quintals of maize, onions, garlic, tomato and spices estimated to be harvested from the area of land developed through irrigation.
