Ethiopia: May 28 celebrated in Djibouti, Khartoum

Addis Ababa – Diplomats and employees of Ethiopian Embassies in Djibouti and Khartoum celebrated the 18th anniversary of the victory of May 28.

Ethiopians and Ethiopians by origin celebrated the Day, the demise of the dictatorial Derg regime that ruled the country for 17 years until 1991, according to a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to ENA on Monday.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti Shemsedin Ahmed on the occasion said the day laid foundation for democracy and peace.

Ethiopia has registered rapid economic development, he said.

The ambassador said the mutual benefits and cooperation with neighboring countries is a fruit of May 28.

Similarly, May 28 was colorfully celebrated in Khartoum.

Ethiopian ambassador to Sudan Ali Abdo on the occasion briefed the gathering about the ongoing socio-economic development and peace and good governance activities in the nation.

The ambassador met ambassadors of various countries, representatives of international agencies and political parties of Sudan.

Sport competition was held as past of the event.
