Ethiopia: State supplies over 61,000 tons coffee to central market
Addis Ababa – The agriculture and rural development bureau of the Oromia state announced that it has supplied over 61,000 tones of washed ahd unwashed coffee to the central market over the last nine months. It has also prepared over 588 million coffee seedlings for plantation.
Bureau head, Umer Hussein told WIC that the bureau has supplied 61,200 tones of washed and unwashed coffee for the central market since last July.
Among the coffee product supplied to the central market 14,100 tones are washed while the rest of it is unwashed, he said.
Establishment of quality assurance laboratories in all coffee producing areas including Gimbi , Bedele , Jima and Diredaw areas is being undertaken to ensure the quality of coffee being supplied to foreign market.
Attention has also been given to furnish the laboratories with the necessary material and manpower, he added.
The head, on the other hand, said that the bureau is making various preparations to transplant over 588 million coffee seedlings.
According to Umer, 80 per cent of the coffee seedlings will be transplanted on plots of coffee growers while the rest of it is to be planted at government seedling stations.
