Ethiopia: Over 1 bln birr SLMP underway in six states
Addis Ababa – A sustainable land management project (SLMP) is underway with over one billion birr in various states, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) announced.
SLMP deputy director with GTZ, Tesfay Mebrahatu, told WIC that the project is being carried out with the fund secured from World Bank (WB), government of Finland, GTZ, German based- KFW bank, government of Ethiopia and Global Environment Facility.
He said the project is underway on 35 big basins in 42 woredas of Amhara, Tigray, Oromia, SNNP, Gambella and Benshangul-Gumuz states.
He said the development works include rehabilitation of depleted land, terrace works, soil and water conservation.
According to Tesfay, the development works will help farmers improve livelihood through producing marketable crops and animals.
He said an extensive capacity building activities would be carried out in selected woredas of the six states with a view to efficiently implementing the project.
