Ethiopian Review

Addis Ababa -The 18th anniversary of the May 28 victory was celebrated in Russia, South Africa, Yemen and Senegal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

In a release sent to WIC, Public Diplomacy and Public Relations Directorate General with the ministry said that the 18th anniversary of the demise of the Derg regime was colorfully celebrated at the Ethiopian embassy in Moscow with various assortments that promote Ethiopian tourist attractions.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Teketel Forsido, addressing the celebration said that May 28 victory signifies the juncture Ethiopia entered in to development, peace and prosperity.

Moreover, an Ethiopian travelers club that brought close to 30 Russian tour operators has been established on the celebration, while nine tourists who visited the SNNP state gave briefings about their stay in Ethiopia.

Similarly, the day was warmly celebrated at the Ethiopian embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.

Speaking at the occasion, Ethiopian Ambassador to South Africa Melese Marimo said that all should make efforts towards ensuring the sustainability of the victories of May 28.

Ambassador Melese also noted that the country, since begun pursing the agriculture development strategy, is registering speedy and promising economic growth.

Representing the South African government, South African Foreign Affairs’ Deputy Director General Mxolisi Nkosi said that the May 28 victory laid the foundation for democracy and good governance in Ethiopia.

In a related development, this year’s May 28 victory day was celebrated at the residence of Ethiopian Ambassador to Yemen.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Yemen Tewfiq Abdulahi, speaking at the occasion, said that the May 28 victory has laid the foundation for the equality of Ethiopian nations and nationalities.

Similarly, the day was celebrated in Dakar Senegal with the presence of representatives of the international diplomatic community in Dakar and members of the Ethio-Senegal friendship association.
