Ethiopia: Over 19 mil Birr worth clean water facilities being constructed in W.Tigray
Humera – Work on the construction of various safe water facilities is well in progress in Wolkayit and Tsegede Woredas of West Tigray Zone with an outlay of over 19 million Birr, the respecive Woredas Mines and Energy Offices said.
Head and representative of the offices told ENA that wide-ranging activities aiming at addressing acute shortage of relevant service in the Woredas is being executed.
Head of the Tsegede Woreda Mines and Energy office, Melaku Estifanos said drilling of various water wells, construction of water points and installation of 12-km water pipeline are among the facilities being carried out in the Woreda.
Harnessing of a river and development of two springs which have the capacity of developing 85 hectares of land is also well underway.
In addition, he said some 150 water wells that would be utilized for irrigation development activities have been readied for services.
The head said the office envisaged increasing the clean water service coverage in the Woreda from 45 percent to 60 percent.
Similarly, representative of the Wolkayite Woreda Mines and Energy office, Habte Gebrewold said sinking of 88 medium-scale water wells is well in progress in various parts of the Woreda.
He said the office has also drilled deep water wells and developed springs.
The office has been striving to reach the clean water service coverage in the Woreda which stands currently at 34 percent to 70 percent.
