Ethiopia: Standing committee urges authority to achieve revenue collection target
Addis Ababa – Budget and Finance Affairs Standing Committee of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) urged the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority to attach special attention towards achieving its revenue collection target.
The committee heard the 10-month performance report of the authority here on Friday.
The authority has collected close to 20 billion Birr revenue during the past ten months, which is less than the set target for the period by over two billion Birr.
The committee urged the authority to do its level best with a view to collecting more than 26 billion Birr revenue until the end of the current budget year.
Committee Chairperson, Atsebha Aregay said the authority has successfully executed reform programs during the reported period.
Presenting the report, Authority’s Director General, Melaku Fenta said the authority has achieved encouraging result in the effort to implement various reform programs.
He said the authority has been executing activities aiming at establishing modern revenue assessment and collection system, raising the awareness of taxpayers voluntarily discharge their tax obligations, expanding investment and collecting timely and effectively tax revenues generated by the economy.
