Ethiopia: Prof. Hussein Ahmed passes away

Addis Ababa – Professor Hussein Ahmed, who served for a long time in history department of the Addis Ababa University (AAU), passed away at the age of 56 on Sunday.

Born in 1945 E.C. in Kalu Woreda, South Wollo Zone of Amhara State, the late professor Hussein attended primary school at Etege Menen School and then he joined W/ro Sehen Secondary School where he completed 11th grade.

Scoring outstanding result, Hussein moved to the then Beide Mariam School to complete secondary education.

The late professor obtained his first degree in history in 1969 E.C with great distinction, which enabled him to be instructor in the university.

Hussien did his masters and Phd in 1974 and 1978, respectively at Birmingham University, England.

According to his life history AAU sent to ENA on Monday, the late Professor contributed a lot in teaching and research works. He got recognition particularly for his research on Islamic history of Wollo . He published a book and over 35 research articles which helped him to obtain his professorship from AAU in 1995 E.C.

The funeral of the late professor took place later on Sunday at Kolfe Cemetery in Addis Ababa in the presence of families, colleagues and students.

The late professor is survived by his wife and four children.
