Ethiopia: Ethio-Inida relation in rural dev’t sector should be further strengthened: Committee
Addis Ababa – Efforts should be made to further strengthen the economic relation between Ethiopia and India particularly in the rural development sector, Agriculture and Rural Development Affairs Standing Committee with the House of People’s Representatives said.
A symposium under the theme “India’s Role in the Agriculture and Rural development of Ethiopia” was held here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the committee, Ababi Demissie said the relation between the two sisterly countries in various arenas particularly in trade and investment sectors has been growing steadily.
India is the second largest foreign investor among the top eight countries engaged in the sector in Ethiopia.
He called upon the government of India to further continue supporting African countries in the economic sector.
Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Gurjit Singh on his part said India is deeply involved in the agricultural sector in Ethiopia.
The ambassador said his country has shared its experience in establishing the commodity exchange to Ethiopia.
Till the end, of 2008, Indian investment in Ethiopia was about 4.15 billion USDs out of which more than half is in the agricultural sector including floriculture, he added.
