Ethiopia: Strengthening micro, small scale enterprises said vital to accelerate dev’t

Addis Ababa – In the effort being made to accelerate the development of the country the role of micro and small scale enterprises said vital. A trade fair and a bazaar of micro and small scale enterprises which would stay from June 7 to 14 and involved over 200 enterprises opened yesterday.

Opening the micros and small scale enterprise exhibition and bazaar, Head of the Trade and Industry Development Bureau of the Addis Ababa city Administration, Fisum Arega said the administration is working to further develop the sector by introducing a new policy.

Sectors such as construction, wood and metal works, garment and textile, food processing as well as other service providing activities are the major focus area of micro and small scale businesses development, he added.

Chief Executive of Yaka Sub City, Belay Derese on his part said the government is also supporting the micro and small scale business development endeavors in Addis.

Despite the current global financial crisis, encouraging economic growth is being scored in a number of cities in the country, he indicated.

More than 200 business enterprises have taken part in the exhibition and bazaar. The enterprises are expected to be equipped with market information and linked with other pertinent enterprises, he concluded.
