The Addis Ababa University (AAU) has Wednesday awarded a gold medal to the first ever women Prof. Alemtsahay Mekonnen, who has recently been bestowed professorship in biology. University President Prof. Andrias Eshete presented the gold medal to Prof. Alemtsahay in the presence of scholars and invited guests. University Women’s Affairs Department and the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) have also presented awards to Prof. Alemtsehay. School of Graduates Vice President Prof. Tsige Gebre-Mariam said on the occasion that the AAU would continue to encourage female students and colleagues of the university. Prof. Alemtsehay on the occasion shared her experiences to the gathering focusing on the ups and downs to her success. She said women should be committed to achieve their goals. A panel discussion was also held on gender as a part of the awarding ceremony.
