Ethiopia: EOC gets possession of St.Yared Cross
Publishes first book on artistic heritage. French Scholar Jacques Mercier handed over the St.Yared Cross that had been stolen from Tana Cherqos Monastery at gunpoint around 1990 to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church (EOC). The effort of the French to the restitution the Cross is commendable. The Restitution of St. Yared Cross is a lesson for young Ethiopians to look back to their past. “There is a lot to explore in Ethiopia about historical pasts. In order to be able to safeguard our cultural properties, the young generation must be aware of their glorious past. I want the Ethiopian people to learn and fight for knowledge and explore what they have inherited,” The restitution of the cross is part of the return of movable historical relics from Europe.
