Ethiopia: Ministry says knowledge on gender issues vital to benefit women

Addis Ababa – The Ministry of Women’s Affairs said pertinent bodies need to have sound knowledge on gender issues so as to further scale up the all-round benefit of women.

The remark came here at an awareness raising training organized by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Speaking on the occasion, gender inspection and evaluation department head with the Ministry, Tsedale Guta said the equal partaking and benefit of women need to be guaranteed through disseminating information on gender issues in various development sectors.

She said ensuring the equal involvement and benefit of women in all the development endeavors would have immense role towards further expediting the ongoing development activities.

Accordingly, gender issue should be incorporated in various development sectors, she said, in this regard the ministry is offering series of awareness raising trainings.

She said the training will help to efficiently implement policies and legislations on gender issues, thus ensure benefit and equality of women.

The concerted efforts the government made so far have borne promising results, she said, and added the community should take active part to capitalize on these results.

Experts drawn from all states are taking part in the five-day training.
