Ethiopia: British Council
Lord Neil Kinnock (R), Chairman of the British Council, was here this week for the launching ceremony of the new British Council building and to attend different meetings.
At the inauguration of the new building on Thursday evening, the guest of honor Deputy Prime Minister Adissu Legesse (L) said that it was his pleasure to witness the opening of the new British Council building and also meet Lord Kinnock who had visited the Ethiopia he once knew about four decades ago. The British Council has been assisting Ethiopia’s capacity building efforts for over six decades now. It has played a monumental role in training thousands of middle- and high-level experts for the country, he said. Addisu added that the fact that British Council has been one of the oldest British government institutions serving the peoples of Ethiopia symbolizes that its role and contribution have been purposeful, otherwise, it couldn’t have stayed for so long even during the past difficult times in the political history of the country. He promised that the Ethiopian government will do its utmost best to facilitate the British Council’s programme in the country. The new British Council building is located near the British Embassy.
