Addis Ababa – President Girma Woldegiorgis expressed condolence over the death of Gabonese President Omar Bongo, who died at the age of 73.
Signing a book of condolence at the Embassy of Gabon here on Friday, President Girma said Omar Bongo’s death is a great loss for his country and for the African continent.
President Girma expressed deep sorrow to the people and government of Gabon on behalf of the people and government of Ethiopia.
He also wished solace to the families of the late President Omar Bongo.
President Omar Bongo died Monday of heart attack at a Spanish hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
He was the longest-serving president in African history, leading Gabon for 41 years.
The Gabonese government has announced 30 days of national mourning.
