Two Seattle men have been charged with assault and attempted robbery in connection with an attack Thursday that left a man with severe brain injuries.

Kenneth Fisher, 19, and Justin Phillips, 20, were among a group of five men who attacked the 25-year-old victim in the 1900 block of 13th Avenue South, according to charging papers. The victim, Dawit Alemu, an immigrant from Ethiopia, was walking past Beacon Hill Playfield about 6:40 p.m. when he was jumped by a group of men.

After knocking Alemu to the ground, Fisher and Phillips went through his pockets, court papers said. Witnesses identified the two, charging papers said.

On Friday, Alemu remained on a ventilator and a nurse compared his brain injuries to "shaken baby syndrome," charging papers said.

According to KING-TV, Alemu had immigrated from Sudan who was about to graduate from Seattle Central Community College.
