First, I want to say my condolences to his family and friends and May God rest his soul in peace.

I am an Eritrean and lived in assab for many years and Commander Zeleke was respected for his hard work by all types of people.

I have seen first hand the contribution made in assab by Commander Zeleke, and evything said here is 100% true.

He was a revolutionary, serious leader with no patience for nonesense. Had he lived in USA during his prime time, no doubt, he could have become one of the top CEOs.

It saddens me to see Ethiopia and the good people of Ethiopia being led by those cowards woyanes's instead of by the likes of Commander Zeleke.

Thanks,
may the ppl of eritrea and ethiopia live in peace forever.

What is posted above is quite true. I had the privilege to witness some of the fruits of his leadership in Assab back in late 80s. With lots of hard work and his excelent ledership quality the port was being modernised rapidly. The barren land was gradually converted into an oasis. The employees' club probably had first class restaurant, with high quality bangalows(where the former dictator Menmgistu himself used to stay) and ground tennis court. Like the Ghion in Addis the gardens of the port eemployee's club was the ideal photograph venue during wedding ceremonies. It had a brillian Bingo gambling centre and employyees had brilliant residence quarter with air conditioning facilities. I think Commander Zeleqe was not only visionary but generous and kind-hearted, as he was best loved by all the residents of the port town.

Let him rest in peace and my comdolences to all his family.

A note to the publidher I guess the caledar used in the above article seems Ethiopia, 'cause Aman was a head of State in 1967 E.C

To Ewnetu,

Harar is the birth place of Ethiopian modern civilazation, the City has been rich in many aspect of life, it's diverse ethinic population and the first rail way line brought so many good things in the early 19th century to creat a visionary young people including the late emperor Haileselassie.

So today people of Harar especially the Amhara the Gurage Sidama etc. given second class citizenship. TPLF has distroyed the dynamics of social fabric for the last 18 years, you could imagine what kind of society it look like now ! G mamo

I have worked under Cmdr Zeleke for more than 8 years in Assab Port. The above story is true. He rebuilt Assab and changed it to green.

May God bless his soul.

I was so saddened to hear that Gash ZELEKE has passed away. As a young teenager in the late 70s you were my true hero. Your influence on my life is monumental by all counts. Cmndr Zeleke Bogale was a loving honest and creative wonderful father and leader. He is a role model for all of us who worked with him and we all remember what you have done for Asseb port. You are a true hero. Well done sir. I will never stop thinking about your works. May God rest your soul in peace.

Ethiopia, rich in all kinds of minerals, rivers, and then seas where Commander Zeleke, as one of his duties, frequently navigated with his naval officers, has also been rich in having highly educated Ethiopians in all areas. It is very sad for Ethiopia to lose, few weeks ago, one of her best artists, Tilahun Gesses, and now this distinguished Commander of the Ethiopian fleet, Zeleke Bogale, who had been the inspiration of many young Ethiopian navy crew as well as Ethiopian civilians. His two sons will be comforted by their father’s extraordinary deeds and his perennial love of his country. If that is not enough, may the Rock of Ages dwell in their hearts and give them extra comfort and his abundant blessings.

Look how long it takes us to develop the institution which could serve the country and makes one of the first in Africa to establish its own Air force, Navy, shipping lines, ethiopian airlines, police force, defense force and electric co and telecommunication.

The country has spends a lot of investment and time to keep its soverignity but look the woyanes, they are destroying the institution and give priority to the old fashion ethnic politics, now we are in the process of killing the nation slowly.

Ethiopia has achieved most of these institutions from scratch starting from the era of Menilik , reach at high point during the Hailselassie, derg also tried to keep what is established and become one of the best in defense in Africa thanks to CIA, and the west , they are able to destroy by collaborating with Woyane and shabia,

When the institutions are established ethnic background was not the question of recruiting and training , it has never been until the woyane come in power, look all the generals Aman andom, Tefri banti, and so many. But the rank is given by merit, and deed than by their closeness to one ethnic group.

So commander Zeleke is one of them but the sad thing is that they are also witnessing when the country falls beyond the lowest point.

God bless ethiopia

As a civilian member of the Navy, my mother had worked with Commander Zeleke for decades. I remember she used to regularly talk about him as one of the most visionary, highly respected & loved leader in the Navy. It is sad that his death is not widely reported in Ethiopia - I called my mum in Addis to check if she had heard about his death from the media or from friends which she did not! May the Lord rest his soul in peace!
