I think Ghana and Atta Mills deserve credit for the peaceful, free and fair elections that took place. The fact that the results were so close is a testimony to the authenticity of the country moving closer to democracy. And I believe we also need to commend Mills for his simplicty and humility, in seeking the face of Almighty God. Aside from his own efforts and campaigns etc. he sought counsel from T.B. Joshua, a prophet of God, who even prophesied the outcome of the election. It is true that there are many fake prophets and insincere pastors playing on peoples naiivity, but there are also true prophets of God sent to world leaders who care to listen and I sincerely believe T.B. Joshua is one of them.

I agree with the comment by Mr. Eritrawi above. It is dandy that people's right to choose the party and candidates they believe in with out any fear for their actions or intimidations by the protagonists. But now, the chosen must start delivering what they promised economically. Enough with talk shops and self-aggrandizing!!!. Heal the population from the epidemics of swindles and fraud that have gripped them for decades now. Vaccinate them from such shameful disease. In stead, teach them how to turn their homes and landscapes into innovative workshops. The only road that will lead them out of their debilitating poverty is industrialization. Don't count on tribal and cultural shows for tourists. Tourism must be taken as an extra source of income. Be lawfully ruthless to thieves who dip their hands in public coffers. Show and tell the people how nations like South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore got to where they are now and what they used to look like economically just a few decades ago. Now you have the right democratic atmosphere where your people can breeze easily. It is time to go to work economically. Industrialize!!!! Industrialize!!!! Industrialize!!!!!
Kudos to the incumbent who gracefully acknowledged defeat! Now they must work together to take their people out of misery.

What we can learn from Ghan is democracy is very possible in Africa. It is an evidence to those westerners that tell us democracy takes ages.
From Ghan we learn that democracy is not the end of everything. There are a lot of challenges accumulated over centuries such as poverty, unfair wealth distribution, poor governance, illitracy...We have to think beyond democracy to face these challenges.

What a profound and honest underestanding of the African situation. Handig power to an opposition party when the vote difference was only ONLY 46,000 is increadible indeed. I would only underline this: "...in case you were wondering, Ghana is in sub-Sahara Africa."

The Ancestors Have Much To teach Us.
By P E Adotey Addo, Dec 27 2008

We are often haunted by the unknowns
If the ancestors inhabit the living or the dead.
So we try to appease their souls as a way of life
Keeping them in everyday activities and places
To become part of the living community,
For they do have much to say to us
As they judge between the living and the dead.
Traditions never forget the ancestors
In both societal life , history and beliefs.
Frightening and exciting us at the same time.
Indeed the ancestors have a lot to teach us

This article clearly shows that this so called democracy in Ghana is nothing but a mirage, the peoples living standards are worse than when it was during the independence of Ghana 50 years ago, the income disparity between the halves and have nots is much wider. Ghana is full of western religious false prophets who keep the people down while fattening their pockets and all the indicators that show that sooner or later people will figure out that this so called democracy is not serving them and will demand real change, that's when the so called democratically elected rulers will unleash their police and armed forces on the people of Ghana.

No western style democracy will ever work in Africa for one reason, that form of democracy is designed to serve the neo-colonial masters and their corporations that control every economic activity, Ghana like every African country is debt ridden, if a government comes that dares to work for the people Ghana it will have a rude awakening or worse get overthrown by a the willing greedy western puppets. Call me a pessimst but it is only a matter of time before the mirage of democracy in Ghana turns into a nightmare.

I just envied being a Ghanian as opposed to an Ethiopian as far as election is concerned. After all, we all share one universal attribute:- We all belong to the human race, so I am a Ghanian as well!!
