ONLF killed 626 Woyanne troops in lastest fighting

November 16th, 2009 |  |  13 Comments

The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), an Ethiopian rebel group operating in eastern Ethiopia, said today that its fighters have killed 626 Woyanne regime troops in latest fighting since Nov. 10, 2009. ONLF sent the following military communique to Ethiopian Review:

The Ogaden National Liberation Front’s latest multi-front offensive, which began on 10 November 2009, has resulted in a total of 626 Woyanne regime troops killed thus far. Among the killed are twelve field officers.

The ONLF has captured sensitive intelligence gathering material including communications monitoring equipment.

ONLF casualties were minimal given that our forces had the element of surprise on all fronts.

A significant amount of military hardware has been captured or destroyed including small
arms, ammunition, and communications equipment. Military grade maps have also been captured. A total of 4 large military transport vehicles have been destroyed.

ONLF field commanders are encouraging scattered regime troops still in the vicinity to surrender. They will be treated humanely and those wishing to be transferred to our allies the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) will receive safe passage to OLF units.

A significant number of civilians are now receiving medical care from ONLF units. Our forces have also freed Somali civilians which were detained in several of the regimes barracks taken by our forces during this operation. Many of those civilians show signs of torture.

The bodies of the regimes troops are still scattered on the battlefield in places such as Obolka where they present a health hazard to the local Somali community. Military operations are still ongoing.

  11. Tomorrow may not be Today says:

Very encouraging news and we put after God our trust on you, the freedom fighters. I am hopping that any opposition is not still thinking like EPLF or TPLF, considering their struggle as colonial question rather than struggle against operation, struggle for equality, equity and justice.

We should not be flattered with one battle field experience. Do not underestimate TPLF just as the Somali Islamic Courts did. TPLF governing Ethiopia has a big army and support of US, Britain and Israel. Never underestimate an army which has huge population as resource pull and supported by the countries mentioned.

    What should be done?

First we have to work in close coordination with other opposition forces in Ethiopia. No matter who any opposition is not in a position to dislike other opposition. Any such behavior is a bonanza for TPLF and calamity for all oppositions in particular and Ethiopia and East Africa in general.

Secondly, although we know their position and what they think of some oppositions, we shall not stop lobbying to get the sympathy or at least their indifference of the key nations which stood behind TPLF.

    Good luck

Ante fesam, It is easy to say that not actually fighting on the field. We have a very wide and open field, it needs heroes like you. Why don’t u come and join, we can need a hand. U are winding your fan from US or Europe. you don’t even imagine what fighting mean. Do u think it is making movies, it is the worst think that even to dream about it. I was there, I know how hard it is. I don’t even wish to my enemy to experience the same like mine. May God bless Ethiopia. For those of u who wish the fight do it is not cyber war it is real war that eats life.

God, give us what we wish, for those who need war give them war (if necessary take them to the war place), for those of us who need peace give us peace, Amen
