21 October 2007

At 6am local Ogaden time on October 20th a major ONLF military operation involving nearly one thousand ONLF troops near the town of Caado located 25km northwest of Wardheer resulted in over 140 TPLF regime troops killed with many more wounded. The TPLF regime troops were escorting Abay Tsehaye, a senior TPLF official and close confidant of Melez Zenawi.

Abay Tsehaye and a few senior officers escaped by helicopter after all land routes out of the area were blocked by ONLF forces.

Thousands of rounds of ammunition and military hardware including communications equipment were captured by ONLF forces during the operation.

This operation was a direct response to the burning of Caado village recently and the continuing abuses against the people of Ogaden by TPLF regime forces in the Wardheer area.

EDITOR’S NOTE
To all the brave ONLF fighters, congratulations for a job well done. These Woyanne thugs are terrorizing our people, starving the children, summarily executing the young, raping the women — you are fighting back and that is what brave people do.

I can not help but simply lough. How is that this bandits could cause such a huge casualty on the big Ethiopian army?
Do you expect for Abay Tsehaye to travel such a long and hostile wilderness by bus or car? It so so obvious that after finishing his business, he to go back to Addis by a helicopter.

Wooow, now it seems Ethiopians are taking the Woyane matter into their own hands. If HR 2003 is not put into law, I am afraid many more Ethiopian parties will take ONLF’s route.

    Viva ONLF!

This is the only way tyranny and agents of tyranny will end. My only disappointment is that they didn’t get the woyane tug, Abay Tsehaie – I hope they ‘ll have a second and more chances to drive the forces of occupation from their homeland. In anycase ultimately that is going to be the fate of Meles and all his woyane tugs!!!

Sooner or later MELES and his TIGREAN TUGS ‘ll be brought to justice for the GENOCIDE AGAINST OGADENI SOMALIS and others!!

    Dear Mistriu

I could say a word or two about your comments. Yet, my question to you would be, how much are you being paid as TPLF informant to betray your motherland?

  9. Tazabie says:

I am totally against the war.Who would benefit? nobdy. Next time we’ll hear that many ONLF people’s death. The people who are fighting in both sides are Ethiopians that are hungry and poor. They don’t live comfotrable life like you and me.I wish not even a single person died from both sides.People, please don’t be happy with other people missery. We should learn from Isayas,Melesse and Mengistu’s mistake. It’s better to get together and discuss our problem than killing each other. It’s 2000 not 1800.Wake up Ethiopians!

  10. Assefa says:

We should all look the matter the way Tazabi commented. As a journalist one should present the news as seen or read about it to let everyone know what the situation is in that part of the country and let the people take their own stand. As Tazabi said, the victims of the conflict were Ethiopians now and more Ethiopians will be victimized when the government takes revenge, which is obvious that will follow soon. In view of this fact, who will benefit?
ONLF, if it considers it self as one of Ethiopia’s Oppositin Group should seek a peaceful solution.

Guys it is a civil war where Ethiopians are losing their life, that is not worth to any body.I wish both the government and ONLF should discuss the issue in a democratic way.Bloodshed is an ancient style,I personally am against it.

I share Tazabie’s comment. However it seems that’s the only way we make Meles zenawi to listen and respect what the ppl has to say and want. WE waited 17 yrs to resolve the problem around the table. As we all know EPRDF refused…..is there another way….i don’t know? but it seems war is the only way for now unless meles learns to listen

  17. Abdullah says:

Tazabie and Tamru,It`s better to solve contentious issues with peaceful and democratic ways. However, that is not possible because we are deaaling with Meles and the Woyanne savages. You should go to Ogaden and see how these Tigrays are terorrizing our people.Since we cannot reason with the inhumane and sadistic Meles,we have to fight back.I wish we had more ONLFs allover Ethiopia.

I will be happy if they specifically killed those soldiers responsible for the Woyane mass murder on people in differen regions. I will not be happy if they kill poor ethiopian soldiers who joined woyane because they do not have any other means to survive;;;No job after education, nothing to eat, no relative that will help them etc. Anyways i appreciate there are patriots in Ethiopian who can speak with Woyane in a language it understands!!!

  22. Gabose says:

I share Tazabi,Assefa and others who expressed the unpleasantness of war. My problem is who to sit and negotiate peacefully?. Do anyone seriously believes that ONLF or any other Ethiopian organisation who has legitimate grievances can peacefully sit with Meles and his gangsters and bring about peaceful political change in Ethiopia?.
That was tried before by the defenceless demonstrators in Addis Abeba after the 2005 elections and we all know what happened. Wasn’t the demonstration a publicly expressed peaceful cry for a meaningful political change?.
I for one wouldn’t be foolish enough to sit with the Woyane because I know it means jail time or outright death sentence. Better die fighting than handing myself to the hyenas.
