Obang Metho,
I truly believe he not only stands for the Anuak People but a good example of ones dedication to human rights. He reaches out to other parties that claim to represent Ethiopia's interest, even though I haven't seen any party addressing the Anuak's cause.

prof alemayehu gebremariam, but ato andaregachew tsegie has done the best thing with his colleages like berhan mewa, dr moges gemariam, daniel assefa, dawit kebede, and drgebereye.when bandas like hodam taye, standless getachew mewa, big belly mammo and other foreign agents created KIC and dancing in an expensive hotel, the above mentioned true ethiopians have done their best for the releasement of our leaders under the leadership of andargachewu tsegie. I have high respect for this vionary man with his bright mind and idea.

None of the above. I'll give Professor Isaac a chance. It's actually a paradox that you have Issayas Afeworki in the pool not Meles Zenawi. Very intersting!!!

I will say Alemayehu Zemedikun. For me he is the man of the Year. Who has shown us how to respect the rule of law and Human Dignity. He left everything he has for justice. you should include him on your list.
December 19th, 2007 at 1:48 PM
Andargachew Tsigie, a very passionate and outstanding guy who played a key role in leading the struggle for the release of our leaders.Ofcourse, I am in great dilemma in choosing between him and Prof. Alemayehu G/Mariam
December 19th, 2007 at 1:50 PM
Selam ER, please disregard my prior two comments :)
I will nominate Daniel Bekele and Netsanet Demessie, men of the year. With their pain they are sending the message of freedom and courage.
Their incarceration is a clear indication of the tyranny and arrogance of the regime still in this new millenium.
"What is a man without his freedom ? "

Daud Ibsa. He is a very clever and patient who had sacrificed a lot to balance exetrimism within his organization, the OLF, and kept the mood of needing to reconcile peace Ethiopians including conservative Amharas. Daud has no hatred for Amharas nor for any other nationality in Ethiopia. He is striving to achieve a genune Democratic Order for the Ethiopian People at Large. Even if he is at the top of the OLF, there are exteremist members of the OLF and also Diaspora Elite who hate him due to his harmonious way of handling issues with non Oromos too. I think, Dauds approach among all other political activists, hold the best future when it comes to the process of reconciliation for the betterment of Future Ethiopia. Most people do not know this guy closely. The prejudice of being an Oromo or an Amhara etc has blinded most of us to see the potential in some people.
December 19th, 2007 at 2:10 PM
Obang Metho for so many reasons but mainly for staying focused at the cause no matter what! For his vision and I only hope people start to see the big picture in 2008. I want to hear every one chant! OBANG OBANG OBANG OBANG OBANG OBANG OBANG OBANG OBANG!!!

December 19th, 2007 at 2:19 PM
Perhaps we should ask for Persons (Men and Women) of the year. It is difficult to choose just one person among the many individuals on the list who have contributed for the betterment of Ethiopia.
December 19th, 2007 at 2:20 PM
Prof. Al Mariam is the best of the best for the years to come
December 19th, 2007 at 2:21 PM
Birtukan!
December 19th, 2007 at 2:21 PM
I agree with the above comment.
Daud Ibsa is a man of integrity. He is quite different from the previous leaders of the OLF. He is not as arrogant as those of his predecessors. He is genuinely committed to seeking a comprehensive solution to all peaoples of Ethiopia and he is a type of leader that is immersed with the world of just doing the best for Oromos alone. I had a friend who was closely acquainted with Daud from their youth Student time at Wingate and then AAU. He told me that Daud (aka Firew Ibsa) had always the resolve to pursue justice for those are in need. He has an extraordinary endurance whenever he do things. Perhaps that is how he survived all the long contours of the guerilla activities of the OLF that has been conducated from Sudan starting from the 1980s. Daud also managed to escape the Derg Prison after 5 years of languishing in Maikelawi.
I believe, this guy deserves a chance and needs to be incalcated other than portraying him and his Organization the OLF as an all time Monster. The reality on the ground is different. Let's rationality a chance to prejudice.

Isayas Afeworqi
December 19th, 2007 at 2:55 PM
Professor Ephraim Isaac should be "Person of the Year". Because he worked so hard by mediating the government with the opposition party to free them.
December 19th, 2007 at 2:56 PM
I would definately go for Issayas Afeworki.
Reason being:
1. He subdued Weyane by arming, training, financing all Ethiopian armed groups!
2. He assured all Ethiopians that unlike Weyane he would work for the unity of Ethiopia!
More to come in 2008!
December 19th, 2007 at 2:58 PM
Isayas Afewrki stood his ground against the racist super power bullying the planet.I endorse him though his hate about Ethiopia is incurable.
December 19th, 2007 at 2:59 PM
Remember those beautiful lines. They were a free man's message -Dr. Berhanu Nega. They were yours.
Of course, you did rise up for freedom with the same readiness and commitment of a soldier who was ready to sacrifice his life in a battlefield. You left your materially comfortable life to land in jail where people are treated in the most inhumane and degrading fashion. Yet even there you continue to believe in human spirit. You give love for those who couldn't transcend hate. "It is enough," claims J.P. Sartre, "for a man to love all other men with undivided love." Birhanu, you are showing us how a man can give undivided love to fellow men.
For you, politics isn't an end. Power is just a means of achieving justice and freedom. That was why you espoused the virtue of honesty in politics. That was why, in a land where gallons of human blood was spilt as if it was expired ink, for political end, you tried to make politics civil. Imagine the brave young people you inspired to politics. Birtukan Midekesa. Muluneh Eyuel. Sileshi Tena. Yeneneh Mulat. Daniel Assefa. Imagine the number of Ethiopians like me who have vowed never to give away their freedom lying down. Imagine the number of people who are intoxicated with the spirit of Kinijit; the spirit you and fellow Kinijit leaders entrenched in the fabrics of their minds. In prison or in hospital (where you are now), such thoughts should spur you on.
December 19th, 2007 at 2:59 PM

1, Prof. Alemayehu G/Mariam

Birtukan Mideksa,
1. For breaking the barrier on women and becoming a shining star;
2. For her courage, contagious smile, fearlessness in giving testimony before an august assembly the US Congress;
3. For standing up to the occasion and acting as Chairperson, when HS reneged on his role as Chairman;
4. For her steadfastness on the rule of law;
5. For the love and respect she showed to HS despite his abrasiveness, reviving the Ethiopian tradition of Chewanet to the Ethiopian youth and even to the older generation;
6. For going back to Ethiopia despite threats by the killer machine that is Woyane.
BIRTUKAN, MY BIRTUKAN, OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!
December 19th, 2007 at 3:05 PM
Berhanu Nega is a farsighted politician, an inexhaustible intellectual, a charismatic person, and a visionary leader who is entrusted to lead our nation to a new direction, ending fifty years of dancing in a political quagmire. Unlike the “My-way or no-way” politicians of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s; Dr. Berhanu is one of the few open-minded Ethiopian politicians who not only values the idea of others, but makes the most use out of it. His charisma, his love for others, his attentiveness, sense of humor, knowledge of politics, respect to dissent, and his consummate ability to deal with people of different attitude and political interest makes Dr. Berhanu Nega the most fulfilled Ethiopian politician of all time. To many who adore him without knowing him personally, he is a rock sold refuge of hope. To his close friends, he is an inspiration and a reason for optimism. To his party colleagues, he is a motivator. To the nation, he is a true vector of change with a solid, clear-cut, and steady trajectory.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:09 PM
Dr. Brehanu Nega should be the person of year.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:11 PM
Obang Metho- I think he is the best uniting figure in the fractured Ethiopian political landscape
December 19th, 2007 at 3:12 PM
I would suggest that when they go back to their country, they should give the chairman ship to BIRHANU NEGA. Because he is the person who can challenge the Melese regim intelectually and also pschologically. Moreover our country needs a person who is accountable for his action. we need to grow economically and a person who can lead us in that line is non other than BIRHANU NEGA.To have ambition for leadership is a virtue provided that you also have wisdom. Praising a person for what he has achieved gives him internal force to go ahead, it becomes a source of inspiration. Optimistic attitude towards anyperson helps you grow.there is nothing wrong in speaking good about a person. what we should feel sad is when we look the down fall of others. Suppoting a hero like Birhanu is our duty.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:12 PM
Obang Metho, Person of the year. For his hard work, HUMAN RIGHT and ETHIOPIAN UNITY.

Elias, maybe, it is good to make categorizations like "person of the year in politics" "person of the year in advocacy of human rights" something like that. Look, I have voted for ato Andargachew, but it ie really hard to put aside Prof. Al. Mariam, Dr. Berhanu Nega and Obang Metho,

December 19th, 2007 at 3:39 PM
There are no enough women in Ethiopia to be nominated for person of the year? What about Seblework Tadesse, the young female prisoner whom we once admired of her effors? There are so many others too. This cannot be representative.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:40 PM
Dr Birhanu is the hope of millions of Ethiopians but he got some serious enemies like EPRP and power hungry diaspora politicians who has been taking the money of diaspora Ethiopians in the name of political and armed struggle. For such people Birhanu is a night mare. Ethiopians back home love Dr Birhanu and see him as a messenger
December 19th, 2007 at 3:41 PM

December 19th, 2007 at 3:44 PM
The same poll was conducted by nazret. Unfortunately nazret has lost the moral authority and decided to include the killer and the nightmare of our nation. Surprisingly manipulated the data to post the killer as a person of the year, to me it seems nazret has collected his friends and woyane mafias to vote for the thief.
Elias,
Thank you for excluding the butcher from the list.
My choice is for Prof. Alemayehu
December 19th, 2007 at 3:44 PM
Dr. Berhanu Nega,
You are the greatest, I wish if you could be named as person of the century.I wish if your picture could be on the cover of Time megazine so that the world would know who you are and where you came from.
keep up the good job!!!!
December 19th, 2007 at 3:46 PM
Dr.Birhanu comes from hard working family who has developed the art of making wealth through a love of a country whereas the thug (dureye) Meles comes from a banda parents known selling the interest of that land to enemies.Melles has never worked and paid tax nor his parents but he got the freedom to kill and distroy a land he grew up abusing so how on earth would anyone compare the incomparable unless she or him are Bandas.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:47 PM
Obang Andaregachew and Alemayehu
December 19th, 2007 at 3:48 PM
If Kinijit was a person it would be by far my favourite person. But it is not, as we all know.
For me Dr. Birhanu Nega is the man of the year. He is richly gifted with a brilliant mind, courageous, witty, and full of compassion. I highly admire prof. Al Mariam, Mr obang Metho, W/t Birtukan Mideksa, Ato Andargachew Tsige, Prof. Mesfin W/ mariam as well. Big respect to Mr. Daud Ibsa, Mr. Chris Smith, Mr. Donald Paine.
Elias you didn't make us the choise that easy :-))
God bless Ethiopiachn!
December 19th, 2007 at 3:48 PM
Dr Birhanu Nega is the Person of the Millennium. No one can match him. He is a visionary, democrat, genuis, affable and most importantly diplomatic. So, Dr Nega is best of the best. He shouldn't be in this category.
My vote for Person of the Year goes to Meron Ahadu. She is the Birtukan or Lady Liberty of the Diaspora Ethiopians. She is the force behind the HR2003 taskforce. Her works for HR2003 is priceless. Besides, she courageously left the hardliner EPRP's women forum so called "International Ethiopian Women's Organization" after she found out their hidden agenda. I say MERON AHADU is the Person of the Year!!!
!!Go Meron Go!!!

Berhanu is the most articulate and passionate advocate of representative democracy and sustainable development in Ethiopian politics today.'
None of us has taken a poll, but I tell you, I've never seen anyone inspire Ethiopians like Berhanu. I've seen completely apathetic folks roused by his speeches. He's so different from the rest, they say.
December 19th, 2007 at 4:02 PM
Demis Belete
I am not aware of any other Ethiopian journalist that accomplished what Demis Belete did. Some people don't want the existence of EPPF to be recognized, but Demis revealed it. They smeared negative propagandas and lies, and he exposed the naked truth. No one dared to go to the war zone, through Eritrea, to verify lots of activities, but he took the risk and did it. Some want us to feel hopeless about EPPF and other organizations including the Eritrean people, and yet he gave us hope by shading light to the hidden truth. One word that defines him and his friend Mej. Gen. Meskerem Ataly is that they both are risk takers and love Ethiopia deeply. More importantly, he documented the history with his camera and video. The man of the year should be a man with courage, honesty and integrity, of course, for sake of his fellow men, and fulfilling his personal values; he did it before; he did it a second time, and he will do it again, and that man is Demis Belete; comparatively speaking, all the rest are doing it in their comfort Zones except Demis Belete— putting at risk all that he owned for the sake of the people of Ethiopia.

so difficult me to nominate as a person of the year. judge Birtukan , a uniqe and simply golden human being. articulated politician, real judge, polite and the most beatifull woman on earth,Dr birhanu well educated economist, articulated politician, open and sharp minded, visionary leader, prof ale, just hereo man, ato andargachew, talented, articulated ,open and sharp minded, judge obang metho, open and sharp, peace lover and true ethiopiai, ato dawi ibsa is freedom fighter , better than other narrow minded his colleages, dedicated and communicable man.so difficult to nominate or to give the highest grade especially for the first four. soI NOMINATED EITHER BIRTUKAN AS PERSON OF THE YEAR, IF NOT I NOMINATED MY SELF.I THINK THE LAST DECISION IS BETTER, BECAUSE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO NOMINATE ALL THESE GREATE ETHIOPIANS

Birtukan Mideksa is the only one for me.She is beautiful, she is inteligent, she is a mother, she is courageous, she is honest she is young and full hope. Above all she is our modern brave politician who sacrifice a lot for Ethiopian people. Went to prison for two years leaving her only child with her family. Birtukan so brave she ignore the brutal Melse warning to kill her and went back to Ethiopia. She is our era of Etege Tayetu. Please vote for Birtukan.

Birhanu Nega is a leader with a new mind-set, and a new political attitude; unusually open mind politician, which is very hard to be accepted in our old political culture where dogmatism, shrewdness & secrecy is appreciated like intelligence, as oppose transparency and honesty is considered foolishness. But, I can tell you this is the only way out from the usual vicious cycle of Ethiopian politics. It may sound inadequate for some, but no hard headed leader for Ethiopia any more. The new breed of leaders must be the people’s person, with great vision willing to share, ready to be corrected and to compromise if necessary.

Dr. Berhnau is one of the few public figures that seems to clearly understand that being open-minded has nothing to do with how one treats other people, but how one treats him/herself. Our mind is autonomous from the minds of others. As social elements, we may be influenced by others, but we make our individual decision. The core idea of open mindedness is to have the capacity to admit mistakes, and gulp down our arrogance and allow ourselves to be corrected by others. If one is arrogant, proud, and hostile then he/she cannot be open-minded because they don’t have the will to accept that they are wrong.

No doubt in my mind person of the year is the one and only Daud Ibsaa. Some of you might not know this but Daud Ibsaa not only escaped from Derg prision twice but also managed to survive from a poison food he ate given to him by Derg spys. Daud could easly be a medical doctor, lawyer, economist or a PHD on various fields but he choose to stand up for his people. In doing so he united the people of south with the northern higlanders despite the nay sayers within his camp and in the Habesas side. We need people like Daud Ibsaa with vision and integrity.

Person of the year should be LIDETU AYALAEW, who always stood for truth and dared to expose the incapability of Hailu shawel to be a chairman of the modern party during the formation of Kinijit. Had Kinijit listened the comments of Lidetu, Kinijit would have been the strongest party we ever had. Even, this division wouldn't have taken place. Read Lidetu's Book (which he wrote two years ago), then you will know why all the current problems of Kinijit have occured. I know most of you would be pissed off by this comment and even would want to kill me but lets be rational and judge. Believe it or not, Lidetu is a True Son of Ethiopia. All the fabricated accusations on Lidetu were similar to what we see now on Birtukan, Andargachew, and Dr Birhanu. Guys,be aware that there are hidden killers of our struggle, by disfaming our heros and true democrats like Andargachew Tsigae and Birhanu Nega.

No doubt about it. He gave a lot to his country and people. He can make difference and should remain the best to say the least.
Thank You

I would say Congressman Donald Payne and Associates for his tireless and persistent effort in getting the Ethiopian Democracy and Accountability Bill ( HR 2003) through Congress successfully something that a lot of experts have worked on for a long time.If it clears all herdeles and becomes law,it has the potential to change the lives of millions of Ethiopians. It is work in prgress. Let us give him and his colleagues credit.
Thanks for the opportunity.
December 19th, 2007 at 8:20 PM
I would recommend that Congressmen Chris Smith and Donald Payne be considered as persons of the year. They boldly and unequivocally stood for the democratic rights of the people of Ethiopia and by default set an example wherever oppression and despotic rule exist in Africa. They had nothing to gain and in fact had to bear the heavy burden and pressure from a well-financed onslaught of lobbyists hired by the government of Ethiopia and others with vested interests in the status quo in Ethiopia.

So Birhe is the man of the year.
December 19th, 2007 at 10:23 PM
Our person of the year is Birae, Birhanu Nega; because it normally took a generation to get a person like Birahnu who helped us all "to see when our birhans not only kinijit or Birtikuan or himself, but our dream Ethiopia sitinega or our spirit Kinijit to flourish across the globe and of course our benign cancer cell like Hailu Shawel to be scanned out at its eraly stage so it won't mastacize and takes the life of kinjit"

DR.BERHANU NEGA stood in the face of so much political attack and personal vilification to protect one concept that has been the cause of our struggle, i.e Democracy.
Although all candidates are priceless assets to Ethiopia, I would vote for the courage and leadership shown by Dr Berhanu Nega. He should be our person of the year. However, I will be happy with any one of them.

December 20th, 2007 at 12:52 AM
Bertukan of course. I give most respect for all opposition members who painstakingly organize such a historical resistance and go to jail respecting the peoples voice and pay the price of incarceration. But, to show such a courage, determination and brilliance for a young woman, who is also a new mother, deserves even better than simply to be called "person of the year".
December 20th, 2007 at 1:05 AM
I would go with true Ethiopian Haile Gebreselasie!
December 20th, 2007 at 1:23 AM

He has done a lot for ethiopia, an archtect of HR2003. He is not a man running for power unlike many others.
yeah, we need a person like him. Andargachewu Tsige is also my hero. I knew he has done a lot as well.
Dr.Berhanu, so far he is a visionary and charismatic leader and has a big task in front. The same is true with Bertukan.
Long live Ethiopia.

ch makes him one the best and right leader for our country for this time. He is an agent of change.HE IS THE BARRACK OBAMA OF ETHIOPIA. He can do a lot if he is given the chance and encouragement to heal the wound of our beloved country.

December 20th, 2007 at 4:21 AM

Prof Alemayehu Gebremariam
December 20th, 2007 at 4:34 AM
my number one man of the year is
Prof. Al Mariam
Reasons for my choice are the following
1. He is not running for power
2. He simply want his country to be free of medeviel dictators of any kind
3. He is the most intellegent Ethiopian who challenge American law makers providing ample scientific evidence
4. He teachs all of us to gather our effort in the fight against tyrany
5. He want our land to be free from any form of injustice and one man rule
6. the list will go on on and on ……
when you chose a person do not be driven emotionally but evaluate from different angle
December 20th, 2007 at 4:46 AM
Definitely ISAYAS
Who stood courageously against Woyane and Western rambo style hegemony.
December 20th, 2007 at 4:50 AM
For me the man of the year is: Andargachew Tsigie
He is the one who brought a semblance of structure to the knijit support group in North American and Europe! Which otherwise would have been exploited by the Shaleqa Joseph and his group at will; A group very keen on Rights but none on Obligations.
December 20th, 2007 at 5:29 AM
i vote for professor Alemayehu Gebremariam.
A true and devoted human right activist!!!
December 20th, 2007 at 5:55 AM
MOHAMED OMER OSMAN (Admiral): the head of the ONLF. our liberator and a man of impeccable integrity. I think ER is unfair that most people seem not to know him. that shows how determined he is to put his organisation before himself. That is what makes ONLF a reliable LF. We are proud of you Admiral. Forget about the doctors and novice politicians in Addis Ababa.
Loath him or love him, you can't take away from this man. HORAY U SOCO ADMIRAL! HA U JOOJIN!
December 20th, 2007 at 6:01 AM
My vote goes to Dr Berhanu Nega. Dr Berhanu has helped start the kinijit movement, a social consciousness movement in Ethiopia. He is not only one of the founders of Kinijit and the one with the most determination to bring about change in Ethiopia towards democracy but he is also the main architect of the election campaign. His vision of a democratic Ethiopia is met with how to bring about that change. His played the highest role in making kinijit fully democratic.
He has transformed Ethiopia's Economic Commission into a multi million birr organization (from a budget of few 10's of thousands) and his research known as Vision 20/20 was a serious accomplishment for him prior to election 2005.
In addition to being the most responsible for Kinijit's success during the election and in its success to be embraced by many millions of Ethiopians, he had written a book in prison that has helped the struggle tremendously. He has taught us to stand with individual rights and to fight for personal freedom and liberty.
Dr berhanu Nega, in my opinion, has made the most contribution to bring about a positive change in Ethiopia. His contribution will impact generations to come.

We should not forget those low profile leaders like Dr Yakob and Prof. Mesfin, who were the engine of the entire movement that we are talking today.

Hi Elias,
Where are those individuals who cross the border with truth in their hands?? Alemayehu Zemedkun and Samuel and all of them. They are real hero's for me who managed to slip out from the hands of the killers. Can you imagine what would have happened if they were caught with the video tapes in their hands?? Heros, they are! I will never forget their story as long as I live. I wish some one publish the story and will document it for the next generation to come.
Many thanks.

For me who comes on top of my list are those who died during the June crises. God you guys are so insane, how can you compare someone who live in a safe heaven and in a hell, and yet suruggle for the better government to come.
Next to those who sacrifies their life comes Dr. Birhanu Nega, who struggle for truth among those who don't know what they are doing or saying.
December 20th, 2007 at 12:35 PM
Dr. Birhanu Nega

Birtukan
December 20th, 2007 at 1:33 PM
For some of us this may not be the year to vote for CUD politicians. As partisan line is emerging and what we like and accept in one wing, the same might lack other values and vice versa. So, something is in the process, and may not reveal the truth until after 2008. They are all probably in post Kality syndrome, varying from fast and the end justifies the means to steady and strategic.
In 2006, the public atleast in the diaspora knew more about Birhanu Nega, Andargachew Tsege, Obang Metho, Alemayehu Gebre Mariam, Solomon Bekele, Mekdes Mesfin and two of the most visible activists of HR2003 Meron Ahadu and Mesfin Mekonen through the media. From Ethiopia, some of the messages of Birtukan Medekssa, Prof. Yacob Woldemariam and Prof. Mesfin Woldemariam, and the two judges and the third advocate who left with evidence of 2005 case. CUD's chairman Hailu Shawel is an interesting politician as more is coming to be known about him in post Kality years. This definately is not a good time for him to be evaluated through polls, considering people have varied opinions about him until the process and resolution is concluded through the Independent Inquiry commission and the Supreme Council of CUD in Ethiopia (LMB).
Through 2006 and late 20005, media platform that brought all sides ( both sides of the current faction) and drew the attention to the diaspora's audience ( including the silent majority) was Nigat Radio, which played a critical role in making all sides introduced to the public and its own effective advocacy and a call for Ethiopiawinet. I agree with Lulit's comment about the host of that radio program Journalist Demis Belete. The choices he takes in politics or the armed stuggle is his own, but does stand out as a person of courage, integrity and honesty. In the end, I believe that he will be justified in some ways.
Prof. Alemayehu Gebremariam, God willing will continue to be a champion him self. My vote went for him as 2006 scholar of the year on this web site's poll. and sense that, he will keep getting voted as on of the best in the future years. In 2007, he played a critical role in touring the states with Alemayehu Zemedhun, former judge Frehiwot and the their colleague in establishing the case of the victims of the 193 Ethiopins of 2005. That is one and very important turning point that also makes him a man of action. In a way, he stood for all in the process, not just for politicians. He is definately person of the year.
If I can vote for both equaly, persons of the year for 2007 are, Prof. Ephrem Isaac and Prof. Alemayehu Gebremariam.

It is always a good idea to vote for the best man of the year( only one). But in this case I think we should rather vote whom to include in the best men&women group of the year. They all equally dedicated and contributed their time and talent. I definitely agree with your list but add more to the list like other CUD members, prisoners ,journalists (Serkalem and Iskinder)family members of the then prisoners etc.. it is also important to categorize them by the areas (political economical, cultural ,sports etc…
Hope to get to know more men and women in and out of the country.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:27 PM
Isias Afeweri of Eritrea is the person who always think and does for the best for the Ethiopian people. He is always angry when he sees abuses and oppression done on the innocent Ethiopian people by the TPLF. His best wishes is that he wanted to see that the Ethiopian people live in peace and tranquility with its brotherly people of Eritrea and also wanted to see that the Ethiopian have their own government favorable to the Ethiopian people.

The choices he takes in politics or [STUDY AND REPORT ON] the armed stuggle is his own, but does stand out as a person of courage, integrity and honesty. In the end, I believe that he will be justified in some ways.

December 20th, 2007 at 5:48 PM
Obang Metho.Obang Metho.Obang Metho!
He is a unifying figure and he made us aware of what is going on in Gambella. I truly think that he brought us together regardeless of the other issues that come and go.
Ethiopia is a home for all of us. All the citizins from North to South East to West should be treated equally!
Obang Metho has done extraordinary effort and has been consistant with his advocay.
I go with Obang, eventhough Dr. Almariam and Dr. Brehanu have also done trimendous contribution after the the 2005 election.
I dont think Haile Gebresilasse should be in this ligue. He is exceptional and should be recognized as atlet of the year, may be the era. Specially for the Berlin Marathon. Just my openion.
Wzt/ Birtukan Medeksa should also be recognized as woman of the year. May be she should also be in a different ligue…for example ( Meseret Defar, jornalist Netsanet Demisse, Liya kebede, Mehret Mandefro… could be the nominees)
For the man of the year, I think Obang Metho all the way!

Brehanu Nega is Man of the Year, and probably man of the generation. He has given us, for the first time, a clear set of values for which we stand. Thanks to his clarity of vision, we now have something to fight for; something which trashes goes far far beyond ethnic boundaries.
Thanks Brish: you make us proud.

Therefore, I am inclined not to vote becuase those people that I don't know their contribution to mother ETHIOPIA might have done a better job than those I know.

December 21st, 2007 at 4:59 PM
Mr Daud Ibsa
He is the one who survived by eating soil, the dergue spies poisoned food when eight of seventeen first time trained OLF memebers where died in the West Oromia(Ethiopia).
After his survival he was caught and taken to hospital but confused the dergue spies by acting as a mad and sent to Amanuel psychiatry hospital. That is where he did history one more time by escaping from the hospital being naked as a crazy for the sole reason of liberating the Oromo(Ethiopian) people from the opressors for good. That is why he quit from AAU at early age. Since then is standing for the cause of the oppressed people of Ethiopia. He is intiator and leader of AFD which is the best alternative for complex ethiopian politics. He also believes in a win win politics, not in a win and defeate politics.
Please, all of you stopp whom you are choosing and look once again who have best endurance and determination for what he/she believes in. Mr daud is already proven to be a leader and reliable to for the purpose he stands for.
You all know that Mr daud came up with the new idea of bringing all ethiopian opposition while the butcher in Addis,i.e.,Mr zenawi was inviting OLF alone for power sharing. Daud rejected the invitation neither to offened Meles nor to please kinijit, but he believes in the all inclusive politics which is the only way out of the of the complex Ethiopian political problem.
So guys pause your idea and think one mor time to go for a leader who has a good vision for the region(horn of africa) and proved to lead in a difficult time.
Merry chirstmas
December 21st, 2007 at 5:40 PM
dr berhanu he is ethiopian mandala
he is the sprit of cud
December 21st, 2007 at 5:44 PM
I assume "person of the year" status is reserved not only for those who made headlines for good deeds. It applies to those who took effective actions that would affect many (and for many years to come too) as well. If my understanding is correct, please accept my nomination of Yosef Yazew for person of the year. Yazew single handedly crippled the movement (Kinijit, that is) which the TPLF, with all its state power (military and diplomatic resources), was not able to slow.
December 21st, 2007 at 5:50 PM
no question Mr Daud Ibsa is the man of the year
