Kinijit leaders will attempt to convene supreme council Sunday

December 26th, 2007 |  |  6 Comments

The executive committee of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy Party (Kinijit) will attempt to convene the party’s supreme council again this coming Sunday.

Last Sunday’s attempt failed when a splinter group led by the estranged chairman of Kinijit, Ato Hailu Shawel, blocked council members from entering Kinijit’s official headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The executive committee is also in the process of replacing council members who have resigned or exiled with new members as required by Kinijit’s rules. Some council members who are currently in exile abroad have asked to be replaced. Kinijit executives are confident that this Sunday, the council will reach a quorum, allowing it to make decisions on how to move the party forward. Read more by zikkir News Service.

Ethiopian Review will try to have a live interview with members of the Kinijit supreme council after Sunday’s important meeting.

To All True Kinijit Leader and Supporter

This may be the most difficult time in the history of Kinijit political party and the struggle for a transparent democracy for all Ethiopians. Despite the Hailu Shawel and his renegade follower’s shameless act and TPLF cadre’s effort to cripple Kinijit, Kinijit will cleanse itself from Feudal members and emerge move forward as a genuine political party.

    Long Live Ethiopia Hagerachin!

  2. TG says:

The true leaders of Kinijit have already defeated the splinter
groups with their strong and principled way of political thinking and action. On the other hand, those who couldn’t
live up to the expectation of the people are in a state of self-defeat and self-denial. No matter the struggle is hard, the people of Ethiopia will move forward with leaders who are
willing and able to bring a genuine democratic system.

  3. Degu says:

One of the reasons behind the success of Kinijit in the May 2005 elections was its inclusive and open approach to diverse opinions, personalities and style of work, provided that every one agreed on and acted towards fighting for the basic principles of democracy, freedom and unity -in -equality of the people of Ethiopia. Any move that would undermine this inclusive and tolerant quality of the organization will, in my opinion , have counterproductive consequences. / would lead to the creation of various factions / I would therefore say to council members try to be as inclusive as possible , even under such difficult and testing times, AS YOU CAN\’T AFFORD TO FIGHT ON EVERY FRONT! May God be with you and guide you to do what is good for Ethiopia and her children.

I thank God for exposing who Hailu Shawel is before he assends to power in the name of a popular party. He has shown us his dictatoterial behaviour by single-handedlly firing the most able and respected leaders of “Kinjit”. He is the worst dictator than Menigistu and Meles combined.

I hope they will attempt to contact and include every one that are presently in the country, these attempts should be sincere and on the record so that there won’t be any questioning of the outcome of the meeting.I did hear Dr.Taye and Shalega Mengeste on ETN yesterday and they have already said they will not abide by the decision because of quorum issues. So i hope it will be done according to the bylaw of Kinijit.

  6. Tesfa says:

This matter should be dealt with once and for all. It has been six months plus since our leaders got out of jail but nothing has been practically done to get the party back on track. No doubt the egoistic and the non-sense-talking Hailu Shawel is the culprit in undermining the peoples’ call for unity and creating all obstacles for the road ahead. Because of him and a bunch of gangs [Taye, Yoseph, Admasie, etc.] the Party’s leaders were forced to deal with something that will by no means contribute for the challenge ahead. Hence, I am calling the true Kinjit leaders to move forward and put at end to this deja vu. Egos like Hailu do not have a political personality. They do not deserve attention even from my little brother who is just 7. He knows how “little” they are and that they will die before “maturing”. I am calling the true Kinjit leaders to deal with this matter once and for all. Enough is enough!!!
