U.S. aid team starts work in Ogaden

January 4th, 2008 |  |  4 Comments

ADDIS ABABA, Jan 4 (Reuters) – A U.S. team has started an assessment of the aid situation in Ethiopia’s troubled Ogaden region, the U.S. embassy said, after conflict there fuelled fears of a humanitarian crisis.

The Ethiopian Woyanne army launched a major offensive earlier this year against Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) rebels in the remote eastern region, which borders Somalia.

The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa said on Friday the team, made up of experts from the U.S. Agency for International Development and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, would give an impartial assessment of the situation.

Citing poor rains and restrictions on transport due to the conflict, the U.N. humanitarian agency OCHA said on Friday it was “increasingly concerned” about food security in the region.

Last month, Ethiopian Woyanne expelled an Australian and a Briton working for the charity Save the Children UK after accusing them of diverting food aid to the ONLF.

Several aid organisations were ordered out of Ogaden in July. But the government has relaxed restrictions since then and licensed the United Nations and 19 agencies to work there.

  1. FARAH says:

    To all mankind,

Woyanes have slaughtered over 2000 prisonners last weekend at JIJIGGA main prison. The blockade to those who they mistrust such as Australians and British aid providers were to hide their slaughter houses also clean every traces of evidences.

Among woyane genocide victims include 7 Ogadeni boys kidnaped by agents in Somaliland and some Oromo who were displaced throughout the horn. One of the butchered Oromo by the name of Abdulnasir was mentally drailed for some time.

This one huge proof Woyanes have overhouled all rules of modern day norm. UN GENEVA VONVENTION OF 48, AND ALL UN protection for all human beings cleared brought into tatters under the Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia.

These report are all confirmed from witnesses from Jijiga Ogaden persons.

The Ogadeni boys and One mentally loose Oromo Persons were snatched from Hargiessa on October 6th were transferred to Jijigga on October 13th morning via Ethiopian Air craft that brought narcotic chat to Hargiessa.

Please pass this info to Red Cross, all peace loving people.

  3. Ahmed says:

It seems that lying is part of the Woyannes’ fabric. It was only few weeks that they promised they will lift aid and commercial blockage from the Ogaden and therefore will would spare them from hunger. Now, conditions appear to be getting worse and nothing much has been done to alleviate peoples’ misery.

I would have thought Americans would do a more effective job by telling Meles to lift the blockage rather than sending some hand-outs to Ogadenis, after all it is Meles who intentionally created the dire situation.

That is a grotesque lie. The world could have avoided another man-made disaster in Ogaden if they didn´t ignore Elias´ and other people´s warning about the weyanne´s ruthlessness and its blatant disregard for its own people. This is a disaster that is made by the weyanne regime – pure and simple.
