President Girma’s wife comes to the U.S. (satire)

March 31st, 2008 |  |  27 Comments

In other countries, the first lady is the wife of the president who is the head of state. So why are Woyannes calling Azeb Mesfin, the prime minister’s wife ‘first lady’? This picture below is only for satire purpose.

Please, this is not acceptable at all. It is contrary to our Ethiopian culture which respect elders regardless. Idon’t support the present regime, and yet, it should not be a personal attack on the leaders. Let us focus on the issues.

Selam Ato Elias: I saw the same picture presented by a white mid-westerner at a conference on agriculture in California. He stated that it was probably politically incorrect to show it but he indicated that there was some humor in it. I strongly disagreed with his assertion then and I strongly disagree with you now. I personally do not see the humor in it; it is degrading, belittling, and devoid of any humor. I would suggest that you stick to the politics of the day, the actions of government officials in their capacity to govern or lack of it. However, do not belittle human beings, no matter who they are.

This is not morally, socially and politically acceptable. It tarnishes the immage of ER, which in most cases a very informative website.
Let us stick to our culture of decorum and refrain from doing anything that gives the impression of degrading mothers we all dearly love and respect.

Please be aware that President Girma’s real wife is still alive and living near Washington DC in Maryland with her children. She is a very decent and relgious woman totally different from him. She is by the way the daughter of Mr Pawlos Menameno, Ethiopian ambassador to Jerusalem, and a good friend of the famous writer Gebrehiwot Baykedagn.
Gebrehiwot dedicated his book ”Menghistnna Yehizb Astedader to Pawlos in gratitude to Pawlos’s help when the author was sick. Let us be careful not to offend innocent bystanders.

The answer is simple. In the case of Ethiopia, a country implemented parlimantary system, the head of state is the Prime Minister – not the president. The president is known as the head of Government.

    Solomon, you are wrong.

    Biftu,
Who cares who her father is. Ambassador or Garbagge Collector? Who cares if she is religious or not? Metoaleka Girma and her both of them have big stomach. They eat too much, when most of the kids are hungry in that poor country. Both of them are Woyanes. What did she or the fat president did for his country expect eating and getting fat.
Right on Elias! Stop critisizing him you bunch of Woyanes.

Everything in Ethiopia is expensive this days. There is draught and hunger in some part of Ethiopia. But the president and his wife don’t know what is going on in the country or they don’t care. I want you all to know that, the president only has two jobs; EATING AND SLEEPING.

    Bless Ethiopia.

Tell to those Ethiopians who are victims of the dictators. What is the image you are talking about. Ethiopians are “the poorest of the poor”
And stop your age old pride and fight for justice and democracy
