Good perormance from Harar, but I don’t understand why the musical instrument sounds like Arabic? Was it not possible to make it sound like distinctly Ethiopian?

  2. What a curse! says:

Dagne, don’t be (or act like) a neftegna moron. Ethiopia is a diverse nation and unlike the abyssinian theories we do have more than five music styles. So what is wrong if the Hararis have one having Arabic melodies. Who do you think Ethiopian Semites are anyway? Ask Gadafi! hahahahaha…

    Mr Curse,

Don’t get me wrong! I like music from different countries. For example, most Ethiopians (although don’t speak the language)love Sudaneese music mainly because it has some similarity with ours. But this particular music from Harar has typical Arabic melody which Ethiopians are not familiar with. I didn’t say it is bad music. I am just saying it is starnge for us.

Music has no ethnic or geographic boundary. As a an artist, I can say excellent contemporary musical arangement with a flavor or Arabic melodies, by the way also similar to the Adere’s style. Beautiful and creative. Very happy to see this productions.

    Good Job Evagandi!!

This is what is needed to make Ethiopian music more palatable. It needs a good shot in the arm like this one by infusing creative rythms and melodies. Tilahun, Alemayehu, Aster and the likes have served out their duties by leap-frogging the music art from Sengo Megen to modern pop and R&B’s. They deserve a few kudos for their effort. But now someone has take their style out of the outdated mold into something new and creative(prgressive) trend and this one to be the one and the beginning. Good job!!!!

  7. ABADIR! says:

I am from HARAR Too! We never heard of this kind of Arabic Melodies. We Ethiopians have our own musical style although I don’t oppose sometimes to spice it up with other musical melodies. This one is out of touch! I speak, hear and write all and every language spoken in my area and I like them all equally. As far as relating this music to ADEREGNA is concerned, it has no connection at all I would rather prefer the best ADEREGNA traditional song “HAIY BELEGN ESHISH BELEGN”. The sad parts of some of the comments are we have still ill advised individuals who tried to blame ETHIOPIANISM also they themselves unfortunately are Ethiopians by birth. So, I say let us keep our own and then others later. Let me stop by a statement made by an old and wise man from HARAR.

It goes like this in ADERENGA “ BASHI BASHI KULU BEA’ DIJSHI” translation in AMHARIC “BILESH BILESH BE QILE METASH!”

SEWOUYEW CHAT KAMINA DUA’ YEMIYADERGU SILENEBERU – BE DIRIYAWA QILACHEWOUN – MALETIM CHATACHEWOUN LULUQECHA (MEGUMETIMECHACHEWOUN) SILESEBERECHIBACHEW NEBER ENDIYA YALUT.

So, in the same talking please stop your hate mongering that you have been given by the evil woyane! We Ethiopians are one! No one will change it! You better believe it!

    Thanks Abadir,

You seem to have perfectely read my mind. I don’t have any problem with the dressing style and the dance of the girls in this music vedio. They look strikingly beautiful (as all our Ethiopian girls are!). My worry is the background bastardized music which sounds increasingly Arabic to me.
