April 18th, 2008 |  |  20 Comments

Among the 25 Ethiopian fashion models who were sent to Houston, Texas, to participate in International Festival 2008 (IFest), three have defected yesterday and are seeking asylum, according to ER sources in Houston. The rest of them are held up in their hotel rooms under tight security… more details later.

I think Ethiopia is better. Migration has also become a fashion. There are enough migration models.
I am sure after a few months these models will regret. May be they will be attracted by money to stay and they will understand the artificial life in USA.

Is there any # we can reach the rest of them and assist that they can also escape from state sponsored terrorism by Zenawi?

We should help those who do not want to return to Ethiopia where a group of western dressed Tigrean robbers have been terrorizing over 77 million people for almost two decades until they become like Saddam.

No! No! big mistake. I have no doubt they will deport them back. That is a wrong and ill advised move. They could have make it in a different way if they want to stay in the US. The time is entirely different. We are not in late 90's or early 2000 where every thing was relatively easy.

  10. Assta B. Gettu says:

When there is unhappiness in various segments of life in Ethiopia under Meles Seitanawi regime, people want to get out of the country if they get the chance. In the time of Emperor Haile Selassie, defection was rare; now it is common, thanks to the uncaring Dictator Meles Seitanawi; many Ethiopians are leaving the country for various reasons: some leave the country because they do not belong to the ruling party; others leave because they do not have political freedom in their country; still others leave the country, because they have been crime suspects they have never committed. Even Ethiopian beautiful girls leave their country for the Arab world, because they think they will be paid more money for their bodies in the Arab world than at home. Ethiopian fashion models leave Ethiopia to get more customers for their modeling styles – more customers means more money and more money means more power and more fame. Ethiopian athletes leave their country to show their talents to the sport world, to compete with other athletes and to earn more money than they have been getting in Ethiopia. Soldiers in the Ethiopian army defect almost every month because they don’t want to carry out Meles’ orders to kill and destroy innocent Somalians and their own people. Religious people leave their Churches in Ethiopia and defect to the West because they do not want to serve members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church under the illegitimate Patriarch Abune Paulos. Judges defect Ethiopia for the West, for they have been asked by Meles political gangs to pervert justice in favor of the ruling party; Bankers leave the country because Meles Seitanawi have asked them to divert some Ethiopian money into Meles accounts; therefore, when there is no fairness in Ethiopia, people from the lower stratum of the Ethiopian society to the highest one, defect their country in a great number for a better life in another country.

Ethiopia is a pleasant country to live in; however, those who are in political power have made the country unfit for almost every Ethiopians, and for such economic and political unfairness, they leave the country. The defections of many talented Ethiopians would, in the long run, hurt Ethiopia.

Either you are making up the story or your source is lying. The girls on the picture you posted are current resident of Houston the event is organized by the Ethiopian Community in Houston. This has nothing to with the government of Ethiopia.

Everyone is leaving TPLF left and right, even Tigrian soldiers are leaving the regime for Eritrea. The beautiful Ethiopian girls are leaving the regime, in addition it's own ambassadors, judges and politicians are leaving the regime.

    What a disaster regime!!!

There has never been a regime like this in the African continent history. Perhaps in the history f the world. Any dicator has self interest that is greater than that of it's own people, but the Weyane Regime transcends even self interest.

I see some pathetic ill wish comments about these young defectors. The regime puts its own people in despair. These are young ethiopians who see no hope for their future except to work as as a maid under brutal condition in the middle east. At home they are captives under supressive regime. When one sees a light at the end of the tunnell his hope tend to recarnet so are these young defectors. Wish them good luck.
