Teddy Afro is held in isolation, in dark room

April 28th, 2008 |  |  28 Comments

Ethiopia’s popular singer Teddy Afro is held in isolation inside a dark room at Kaliti prison. Also, unlike other prisoners, he is not allowed to go outside of his cell for fresh air, according to close family members who have visited him over the weekend.

Several friends of Teddy were prevented from visiting him for the Ethiopian Easter holiday (Fasika) on Sunday. Only 5 family members were allowed to see him. The opposition UDJ vice-chaiperson Birtukan Mideksa was one of those who were turned away by prison guards yesterday.

The harsh treament Teddy is getting in prison gives credence to the suspecion that his arrest is politically motivated.

Ethiopians in the Washington DC area are holding a protest rally today in front of the Ethiopian embassy demanding the release of Teddy Afro.

I was reading through the coments and opennions posted by individuals from various corners incldining woyanes and the hodams amaharas.Dam it!!!!!!If Teddy was involved in this hit and run thing why would he go back to woyanes front door instead of hiding like most of us in europe or america?????????????????Why would such a kind and loving youth of great fame with compassion leave a dying person in which he is a cause???????????Tell me one god reason why Teddy is crying for real at the plight of his people and run away from a killing scene?????????????Are you dam saying that Teddy is faking to cry.I have difficulty making ters and only when I hear Teddy’s song “Emmaye,Ethiopiye and Abicinia” makes me cry.Are yousaying such a person will run away from an accident scene and still pretend?????????Woyane is heartbroken for that street kid and yet has mowed down hundreds of innocent Ethiopian on a daily basis.

One thing that needs to be noted is that our over all national tragedy should not be superceded by Teddy’s imprisonimpent.Teddy himself would not appreciate this, but we should go beyond protest. If protest was an effective means,we would have been emmanicipated long…long ago.We have to be prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice period.Too much talk for too long for nothing

Gunfire(comment 4), you are one of the most ignorant people I have seen so far, OK you can say whatever you want about Tedy even though he is really a better being than you but what the hell is the profanity agaist God, Teddy might stay in prison till he gets out but MR, you will fry in hell
Koratu (comment 5), if you haven’t heard, the court house in Ethiopia is a ghost house where you can’t even say a word to the judges about your case, you can’t even say a single word till the judge orders you to speak, if you dare, you are gone for six months, if you laugh in the court if something insanley funny happens, you are gone, you can’t smile and you can barely breath, let alone freeing Teddy who happens to be critical for the woyannes, I am sure if Teddy is innocent, he just won’t get out easy or till he is good mind is wasted, his only hope is God the Almighty, if he is not innocent, then he has the responsibilty to pay for the victims family (I wonder if there is one) and as an accident he will be punished but will he be punished justly? No way, first of all, Tedyy surely have a driver’s license and has been driving for very long both in the country and outside. Woyannes are just too much. Prof Asrat was jailed and they freed them when they became sure that he won’t survive and now woyannes want to make sure that Teddy is wasted in prison by this possibily trumped up charge.

  8. kebede Terefe says:

Teddy never killed a person by the name Degu .It is a ficticious name used by woyane to attack and put Teddy in prison under this pretext. In 2006 Teddy was set free that it was found to be a false tip made by a certain Taxi driver(probably he could be a woyane security)and the case was however pending until woyane finds good script writer for this farce. But Teddy had made wrong choice in picking up Million Assefa as his lawyer who is hard core woyane and use to have been serving the woyane election board and also to woyane economic empires. He is not better than so called judge Gebre lul or hail lul whatever .

    What is Tewodros Kasshun?

For us he is somebody who is just an Ethiopian. As long as he lives in Ethiopia is he not expected to abide by the law of the country????
Please, there is nothing that you can create by crying in from of our respected embassies there in USA and other places of the world. If you want you can go and tell for his Excellency Mr. President Bush or the so-cold Amnesty International. We assure you that there is nothing that they can do.

As some of you said it is not a fabrication and it is not revenge. Tewodros Kasshun has done crime. He has to receive what he disserves to receive we are ready to do that.

You can do NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, by just wasting your time crying. Go to your daily bread searching. Don’t be foolish.

Well, if only Ethiopia has an independent court, we could trust his trial to that court. But the problem is, it Meles’ court, not the people’s. Do you remember how the court purposely delayed Seye’s trial? There is one judge who has a beautiful name-who comes from Meles’ qushet. (Memberetsehay) He serves like a donkey to the government. May God take care of our friend and trust me, He will if he is innocent. Any ways, I would like to know why the government would be interested in his imprisonment. Was he the one who dispised Tegadelti saying 7 merfe? If he is the one, he will rote. He should have pointed to duty-bound weaknesses rather than to poverty. You cannot judge on the basis of poverty. That could be ethnicized easily.

Teddy, has nothing to do with woyane fabricated crime. It is simply an act of retaliation against Teddy for having sungabout Ethiopian flag, unity and love between Ethiopians
irrespective of religion and ethnicity. The fact woyane at this particular juncture is totally in disarray as is coughed-up by Ethiopian people and of by several international communities. Thus now behaving like rabid dog attack every one not loyal to woyane and hard core Ethiopians.Come what may ,we never flinch back an inchfrom achieving our goal until woyane thrown to the dust bin history

Some people are irrational, like Hagos. What do you(Hagos) think I feel when Kirose Alemayehu is dead? I cry. You know why, because he is good Tgrian singer, You know why, because he is an Ethiopian. Because he is man kind. You know teddy likes you very much that is why he is in prison. Please go back and evaluate your thought pattern for giving this illogical comment.

My suggesion goes to EPRDF, as long as you are the ruling party, you need to listen the people’s heart. The people are saying we love teddy, Teddy is innocent..free Teddy. The people’s voice should be refelected up on the government’s decision. Arresting Teddy is meant to break the little communication you had with the people.

Let Allah will help you Tedi Afro !!
    1. If he kills a man purposily he is guilty, let allah punish him,
    2. If he kills a man unknowngly he is innocent.
My personal opinion – he is not as such fool to kill people , we have to mind that he has mind and love for the ethiopian people, ofcourse he is not killing purposly – therefore let make him free.
If he kill purposly, The punishment in the hear after( after death) – at the end of life is more difficult than this earth– let the Almighty give his punishment – please make him free woyane!!!
