I am not sure if I agree with this, however as a Ethiopian Hebrew Israelite here in the USA, I have read and studied the Bible and from Genesis to Revelation it is about Ethiopian peoples; Ethiopia is the mother of Africa and of humanity, and this is what the Bible teaches, and the Bible was written in ancient times, so it has some credibility. All Ethiopians are Hebrew Israelites and all Africans are Ethiopians, just read the Bible.

Tamiru, it is not a study done by a foreigner, it was done by an Ethiopian. I certainly do not agree in his findings.

this article sounds like a subtle attempt to create a divide between amara and tigre people. It is covered in flattery but the take away message is that amara and tigre are and have been a different people. Whoever is writing it quite intellegent. The story has to be so appealing that it would be more attractive than the evolution of Geez into amharic and tigrigna and thus Egypt bla bla bla. We dont need further division between abesha. Look at what happened to eritreans when they starting believing they come from beja kindom and minamin kingdom. True history is a result of geopolitics: false history is usually injected to weaken. I smell a rat, do you?

2) someone used the exmple of India and China and said that they ahve the right to boost abt their civillization cus of the ecoomic grwoth well wat about

The people of Gebts were the worlds first white people also. They also invented Engliznya which has been turned into English today. The Gebts leaders had colonized most of North Amerigna and South Amerigna prior to 6500 BCE.

For a person like me who shares blood from Oromo and Amhara ethnic groups, this is so annoying and painful. I want the two bloods to live in me with love and respect. No offense, I am a true symbol of Ethiopia- a land of unity and freedom (that is actually a mystery to the whole world). As being proudly Ethiopian, I can't tolerate these narrow minded individuals who try to abuse and manipulate my people living with unspeakable suffering. I know because of western education we all have got politically criminal-mind.

Good lord please save my country from the people who want to lead Ethiopia blindfolded and with their animal instinct.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
.....
.....

Wont you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

This is total bullshit as has been pointed out by many readers. As an Ethiopian of Tigrean decent, I knowingly accept that there is no little to no cultural difference between the semitic speaking people of the horn, including those of our Eritrean cousins. There are only stupid political differences which God willing will come to an end one day so that we can move into the 21st century! Rubbish article

I'm impressed by the discovery and proud to be habesha, however not the least surprised. I mean, we live in one of the oldest and most historiacal (both religiously and scientifically) location on earth, so it is to be expected. I was in Ethiopia at the start of the year so wnet to Axum to check it out. Some of the things I saw there were freshly on display as they had only been discovered a feew weeks prior.

I wouldn't mind finding out more information on the topic though... :O) Quite interesting

Dear Mr. Elias and comchambawe,

Do you know what this guy by the name jokerfast shown above is talking about? Is he sober of drunk? Where did he get this name Debebe Zeleke for me? Ankober? I wish I was born there just because it is mentioned in many historian books a lot. This is what I am talking about. He does not know me and he never saw me in person. But he has assured himself that I am someone he knows from Ankober. God save this country of 80 million and May God bring this guy to his senses. He is saying something like anglo-italo-franko...Tigrean solomonoid...What is he talking about? This kind of erroneous tongue-lashing honest people will do nothing but harm and it won't cut the mustard.

Tawfik is Debebe zeleqe from Ankober. He is shamelessly counting Iyasu & zawdiytu as Ethiopian leaders, and he does all this gimmickry even if he knows that they had ruled for sometrhing worth 2 weeks each . He is trying to shore up his chance-earned shawan , or the shew-shew type of pseudo-dyasty of the Bihere zeleqe-weleqes ; a menial tribals which, unfortunately , with the help of anglo-italo-franko power was temporarily enabled to steal power from the legitimate solomonoid Tigreans .

1.	Response to #22
You must be an Eritrean for you have tried to portray Eritrean Tigrnya to be superior to that of Ethiopian Tigrnya. Phony and delusional self-inflating sickness that emanated from slave mentality caused by several decades of European colonization. Tigray's Tigringa and Amharic are akin to each other because they are both of the same origin (Geez) and the Tigray and Amhara regions share common border and the people share common history and are highly intermingled. Thus, stating that Tigray's Tigrinya is less pure than Eritrea's due to the former's similarity with amharic is illogical and wrong. Rather, since Eritrean Tigrnya is highly influenced by Italian and Arabic languages(which are totally foreign), it is not only impure but also hybrid.
The English people speak English, the Amhara speak Amharic, the Oromo people speak Oromigna and the Tigray people speak Tigrina. The Tigringa spoken by the christian highlanders of Eritrea has orginated from Tigray as the name implies. Logically, the Tigringa speaking of highland Eritrea ought to be named as Tigreans/Tigray just the same as the Amharic speaking pepople are called as Amhara. However, due to the malice they have towards the Tigray people and other Ethiopians, they prefer to be called as Tigrigna which is a language name rather than an ethnic name (similar to calling the Oromo people as Oromigna).

Dear comchambawe and Elias,

Thank you both for the opportunity you presented to me regarding some cardinal issues regarding our country. Nothing is more satisfying than the fact that you have done some thing material by which you have given that proud man or women am opportunity where he/she has earned the money to feed a family or two. Nothing at all. After you are realized that, every meal you are having here never tasted better. It is a big mountain out there but we have to keep chipping away one small boulder at a time.

Thank you all again and God Bless!!!!

First, first thing first. When God created man,the home chosen was Ethiopia;hence Luci or Dinknesh.

God words are Ethiopia and Ethiopia is God words. History doesn't lie or mishchief; it is why the world is always depending on fact and figures when it comes civilization and innovation.

The contribution made by our ancesstors has always been helpful in knowning and learning about what makes us human beings and what makes the world both spritual and physical.

The world can't be talked about or can not be described with first talking about the origion of human beings and the core source of knowledge and creativity. In this regard, Ethiopia is or has been the center of nearly everything. Amen.

The world can’t be talked about or can not be described with first talking about the origion of human beings and the core source of knowledge and creativity. In this regard, Ethiopia is or has been the center of nearly everything. Amen.

Hello comchambawe,

Thank you for your comment. I would like to mention a few things that have been done so far in which I play a leadership role.

Invested in companies which have set up small scale fabricating facilities there and other African countries. Have personally made contribution in hard currencies and material; I am involved in intense negotiations with experienced companies to open manufacturing facilities there. This involves fabrications of plastic and metal products that can be domestically and sold in the western markets. Remember some of Chinese job market is starting to dry up. We will do more when the trade policies and red tape here and over there begin to loosen up. Believe me we will never open another Tequila factory. May be burrito and tortilla factories!!! Get it!!!! You sound to be a well rounded and intelligent man. I am sure you will use it in a way to alleviate the well being of those very proud people. They have suffered enough. They are intelligent people. Just look how they learned a lot of modern things from a 5-year occupation by fascist Italy? They learned by watching closely what the occupiers were doing. That ability to learn is still there. It just has been covered by years of mismanagement and shortage of pioneers; I hope I don't sound negative to you. I mean no harm. Take care.

Thanks again Mr. Elias.

An Oromo inventor brought that writing to the 21st century, by inventing the first type writer for so called writing. The great Oromos minds, and their inventions are numerous to list. Without OROMO Ethiopia is scattered donust with huge hole in the middle. Refer to Ethiopian map. Oromos ought to be celeberated with the rest of diversity. We must value incompass, value, respect, Oromos as people.

I am very proud Ethiopian but I am sorry, as much as I love my mama Ethiopia, I believe in know sources of information that is legitimate. From politics to Anthropoloy, sociology and history we need to have a good source information or it will be looking like a fairytale.

Erik Kowal says:
What was the scope of the study mentioned at the beginning of the article, and who conducted it? More information about it would be most welcome.

Elias seems to love the controversial issues. Or am I being cynical? I don't know.

Dear Elias,

I applauded you for posting my previous article. I hope it will incite some serious and genuine debate and discussion free of name-calling and diatribe. I came to realize how we can be expedient and sharp-tongued in calling honest people terrible names. As the situation correctly depicts, there are not that many valuable intellectuals per quota that move the country forward. If any, they are somehow wrongly despised for their honest remarks and comments. Some of have decided to engage in personal mission to advance themselves often ending in utter destruction of people's morale and lives. What a pity!!!! I urge and call upon all genuine compatriots to put a freeze on name-calling for a period of at least 5 years and in stead focus on how to send non-political messages to the people on how to improve their daily lives with what their surroundings provide. In stead of sending political pamphlets, let’s send them educational materials to transform them into nature tamers. Didn't someone tell me some many times before that the country is well endowed with natural resources? Are all those rivers I used to see the whole time I was growing up gone? Even those dry-bed rivers that used to teem with raging waters during the rainy season? Are they gone for ever? In stead of opening another poison factory (beer), why not a smelting facility? Why not a molding and forging factory? Mr. Elias...Please help me understand these people. Why on earth they put so much money to make the same poisoning beverage already being made enough to intoxicate 100,000,000 people? To make money? Off destitute people? I am not saying they should be forbidden. I am a strong believer in market economy. Let their success be decided by the market. But they should feel responsible. I recall an article I read about one of our past rulers in which he told off foreign missionaries. He told them that the country had enough preachers and bible. What he needed were smiths and engineers. I think he was right. He was not right in his actions for lack of subtle diplomacy. I hope this comment will instigate some serious, genuine and constructive discussion

This is a bit "over the top" as they say in some English speaking countries. Amharic was formed in the 12th centaury by the soldiers of Lasta who tried to communicate amongst themselves without divulging what the soldiers were talking about to the common people. Prior to this period, Giez was spoken in much of Ethiopia. By the way, Giez and Amharic were like English and Pigeon English spoken today by the Jamaicans. Amharic spread like a wild fire throughout Ethiopia, until Gragn Mohammad, converted to Islam and equipped with the Ottoman Turks ‘ guns, ruled Ethiopia for eight years, forcing everyone who used to speak Amarigna in most parts of Ethiopia including Wollega to adopt and Oromigna and follow Islam. I am proud of the Amharic and Tigrigna languages and equally proud of Oromigna and all other languages of mother Ethiopia.

To say that Amarigna and Tigrigna were the languages of ancient Egypt is a little "too rich". That said, I would like to thank Elias for posting this interesting article and enabling us to say what we think about the evolution of our languages.

Hi Comchambawe,

Listen and for heavens sake I am beholding you!

Stop blaming others exclusively for the poverty and misery that engulfed that most populous nation in the Horn of Africa. You know better and a lot of us intellectual know better. I don't think we had had any government that was or is bent to go to war if the people focused on embettering themselves economically. Did Menelik, Iyasu, Zawditu, Haile Selassie and the regimes that followed sent their army to massacre and wipe the Gurage people for creating means in the merchandizing area to improve their livelihood? Aren't they still striving? Remember some of those regimes could be outright killers if they thought they are threatened politically. Look at what Japan did after WWII. Look at what Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea have all done just in the last 15, 20, 30 and 50 years!!!!Read their history and you will know I am talking about. Every Japanese was affected by the results of the WWII and was in the middle of utter devastation. They did not hold their heads down in disappear into the oblivion of depression. Before and during the war every Japanese whether gifted or not was pushed to be involved in some of sort of active politics. Factories were politicked; farms were fanatically politicked; they were told to follow a specific political line. And they did. After the war they realized that they also were to blame for the destruction that befell the entire country. They changed the course and left politics to be fought by politicians and focused on the daunting task of self improvement. They used every penny of outside help to improve their schools, build factories almost from scratch and all other amenities needed for modern industrial development. They used very penny they received and earned wisely. After 30-40 years they become an economic force to be reckoned with. Other Asian countries I mentioned did the same thing. I am being told since I was a child that Ethiopia has the 2 or 3 largest number cattle, goats and also water resources. And yet people continue to die of starvation and diseases that can be prevented. Menelik was blamed post-mortem; Haile Selassie was despised during and after his demise and blaming continue unabated by the very intellectuals who are still doing nothing but continue to blame the other guys. Learn from what that boy from Silte who comes to Addis empty pocket and with persistent hard-working was finally able to buy out that very store owner who lent him the first commodity. Did Haile Selassie sent his well armed soldiers and wipe the entire Silte clan? No!!!!No!!!! Who taught that boy from Silte to be a business strategist? He just does not give up and he does not give a hoot what those knuckle head 'politicians' are mumbling about. He will laugh himself from being a listro to having a ‘souk-bederetie’, being a shop owner and all the way to the bank!!!! Kkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!. Can somebody talk to this boy!!! Hello PHD’s. Get a life!!!!!
Mr. Eias... I am also beholding to let this heart-felt comment posted on your very valuable website.
