Int'l Criminal Court's Dpty Prosecutor arrives in Addis Ababa

July 11th, 2008 |  |  13 Comments

(ICC) – International Criminal Court (ICC) Deputy Prosecutor Mrs. Fatou Bensouda is invited to brief the Peace and Security Council of the African Union on 11 July on case related issues including Darfur, as ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo prepares to present to ICC Judges in The Hague his second case in the Darfur situation, scheduled to take place on July 14.

In Ethiopia, Deputy Prosecutor Bensouda will also meet with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Jean Ping.

Prior to traveling to African Union Headquarters in Ethiopia, Mrs. Bensouda attended the African Union Summit in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, from 30 June – 1 July.

The International Criminal Court is an independent, permanent court that investigates and prosecutes persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

If this court is true court and objective, it should invastigating meles zenawi who is personally responsible for genocide in Gambella, elsewhere and crimes against humanity in Ethiopia. This court is an instrument for the west to crack down on those who refuses to bow down on their knees for their supremacy.

It is a useful organization, I could say fale institution.

    Abebe you are right!

It has no negative connotation to Meles. It is stupid mentality of you guys to look all the time for hate related news. You better rewrite the news and say the Int'l Criminal Dpty Prosecutor is going to arrest Meles. Then, I will have my break to read your news.

We need peace and security, not 'Bere Welede' type of news!

Stop and think if you can really contribute to the betterment of Ethiopia, be it by removing Meles or whoever you may is an obstacle to the most important peace and security of the people. But one thing has to stop: personal motivations…. Afterwards, I can be part of the process otherwise….

If Bashir of the Sudan is charged with genocide and crime against humanity, then, Meles will be the perfect candidate for the same cime or even more. The genocide for which Bashir is charged of was not commited by his own security forces under is command, but by a group of armed men. He might have given them some support which makes him indirectly responsible for the crime. But in the case of Meles the security forces that commited the massacre and other abuses were under his direct command which makes him more guilty than Bashir. You cannot charge criminals selectively. The law should apply to all.

  13. Reppi says:

The International Criminals Courts must first condemn and bring to justice the real people who are creating havoc in the world.
These people , the west, have committed serious crimes against other people.
The ICC is a tool of the west. They could not care less for the brutalized Darfurians. They are coming after Bashir because the were told by the west.

They will not go after Meles because the West won't let them.

If anybody is going to bring Banda meles and his Banda stooges to justice it has to be Ethiopians.
