The secretary general of Unity for Democracy and Justice Party (UDJ), Ato Andualem Aragie, who resides in Addis Ababa, said today that the kind of popular uprising that is currently taking place in Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen will also happen in Ethiopia. Ato Andualem told Serkadis News Service that living conditions in Ethiopia are far worse than those in Egypt and that the people of Ethiopia are subjected to gross human rights abuses.
The recent attempts by the Meles regime to prevent similar uprising by trying to to bring down commodity prices through price control and taking further repressive measures will not be effective, according to other observers in Addis Ababa. Read the full report here (Amharic).

I am certain that with private so called national army and the bridge commanders being Tigrians as well as, the police, such a pipe dream to take place will be just a dream. If such a demonstration ever take place for sure it is that they will be massacred and the city will be a blood bath. I agree with no. 3. The reason is don’t try it with out any tangible leadership. Don’t follow the footsteps of Meles in disintegrating Ethiopia. If you have the guts forgive each other and organize so as to come up with a good leadership. If you can’t do that just stay put and watch the uprises in other countries and enjoy.

ግብፅ ከሌሎች አረብ ሃገሮች አንፃር በዝቅተኛ የኢኮኖሚ ምድብ ላይ የምትገኝ አገር ናት። ከፍተኛ ቁጥር ያለዉ ህዝቧ በከፋ ድህነት ዉስጥ ይኖራል። ሃገሪቱ እንደሌሎች አረብ ሃገሮች ሰፊ የሆነ የነዳጅ ሃብት ወይም ሌላ የተፈጥሮ ሃብት የላትም። ግብፅ ኢኮኖሚዋን የነፃ ገበያ ለማድረግና የኢኮኖሚ ተቋሞቿን ለማሻሻል ጥረት ማድረግ ከጀመረች የቆየች ቢሆንም ከአገዛዙ የተማከለ ስርአት ባህርይ የተነሳ ሙስና የተንሰራፋ በመሆኑ ይህንን ሪፎርም በተፈለገዉ ፍጥነት ማካሄድ አልተቻለም። እየጨመረ የመጣዉ የኑሮ ዉድነት በአንድ በኩል በማደግ ላይ ካለዉ የሃገሪቱ ኢኮኖሚ ጋር የተያያዘ ሲሆን በሌላ በኩል ደግሞ ባለፉት ሁለት አመታት አለማችንን ያጋጠማት የኢኮኖሚ ቀዉስና ተከትሎት የመጣዉ የመሰረታዊ እቃወች ዋጋ ዉድነት ዉጤት ጭምር ነዉ። የግብፅ ኢኮኖሚ ማደግ በድሆችና በሃብታሞች መካከል ያለዉን የሃብት ልዩነት እያሰፋ ከመሄድ እና ከዋጋ መጨመር በስተቀር ለድሃዉ ህብረተሰብ የፈጠረዉ ነገር የለም። ግብፅ እስካሁን ድረስ የዋጋ መጨመርን ለመዋጋት ስትል ከፍተኛ መጠን ያለዉ ገንዘብ ከበጀቷ ዉስጥ ለዋጋ ቅነሳ መድባ ድጎማ ስታደርግ ብትቆይም የግብፅ ህዝብ ቁጥር እያደገ መምጣት ለድጎማ ስታዉለዉ የነበረዉ ገንዘብ መጠን ከሃገሪቱ አቅም በላይ እንዲሆን አድርጎታል። አምባገነን መንግስታት ከዜጎቻቸዉ ፀጥታን ያገኙ መስሏቸዉ ዜጎቻቸዉ ዳቦ እንዳይራቡ ቢያደርጉም፤ ዜጎቻቸው ግን ጥያቄያቸዉ ሆዳቸዉን መሙላት ብቻ አልሆነም። በአሁኑ ጊዜ ከየትኛዉም ጊዜ በበለጠ ተቀራርባ ያለችው አለማችን ዜጎች የሚኖሩበትን የከፋ የኑሮ ሁኔታ እና ተነፍገዉት ያለዉን መሰረታዊ የሰዉ ልጆች መብት ከሌሎች ሃገሮች ጋር እንዲያወዳድሩና በአንፃሩም ገዥወቻቸዉና ተቆራኝተዋቸዉ ያሉት ባለሃብቶች ተንደላቀዉ የሚኖሩበትን ሁኔታ እያነፃፀሩ ተቃዉሞአቸዉን እንዲያባባሱ አድርጓል።
ይህንን አብዮት – የግብፅንም ሆነ የቱኒዚያ – የተለየ የሚያደርገዉ የወጣቶች አብዮት መሆኑ ነዉ። ተሰልፎ ከወጣዉ መካከል በአብዛኛዉ የሚስተዋለዉ ወጣቱ ነዉ። ወጣቱ በድህነት እና በስራ አጥነት ተጠምዶ መኖሩ ሳያንስዉ ፍላጎቱንና ሃሳቡን በነፃነት መግለፅ እንዳይችል በስዉር የደህነነት እና የስለላ ድርጂቶች ታፍኖ ተይዞ ቆይቷል። በአንፃሩ ግን የኢንተርኔት ስርጭት በስፋት እያደገ መምጣት፤ “ፌስ ቡክ” እና “ትዊተር” ን የመሳሰሉ የመገናኛ ዘዴወች ተጠቃሚወች ቁጥር ማደግ እንዲሁም የሞባይል ቴልፎን ስርጭት ማደግ መረጃ በቀላሉ ያለምንም እንቅፋት በፍጥነት ማግኘት የሚቻልበት ሁኔታ ፈጥሯል። መረጃ በፍጥነት መለዋወጥ በሚቻልበት አለም የአፈናና የጭቆና ስርአት እድሜ አጭር ይሆናል።
በአካባቢዉ የሚሰራጨዉ የ “አልጀዚራ” ሳተላይት ቴሌቪዝን ጣቢያም አሁን ለምናየዉ የለዉጥ እንቅስቃሴ ከፍተኛ አስተዋፆ አበርክቷል። ይህ ማእከሉ ካታር የሆነዉ ጣቢያ – ካታር በአሜሪካ የመከላከያ ሃይል ጥለላ ስር እንደመሆኗ ለአሜሪካ ወዳጅ የሆኑ መንግስታትን መደገፍ ቢጠበቅባትም – የራሱ የሆነ አጀንዳ ያለዉና ከፍተኛ የሆነ የኢራን ተፀኖ ያለበት ነዉ። ኢራን እንደሚታወቀዉ በአካባቢ ያሉ ሃገራትን ከአሜሪካ ተፅእኖ ለማላቀቅ እና በራሷ ተፅእኖ ስር ለማስገባት ትጣጣራለች። በግብፅም ሆነ በቱኒዚያ የሚመሰረቱት አዲስ መንግስታትን ሙሉ ለሙሉ እንኳን በራስዋ እንዝርት ዉስጥ ማስገባት ባትችልም በተወሰነ ደረጃ አሁን ያላቸዉን ፍፁም የአሜሪካ አጋርነት ለመቀነስ ያስችላታል። በግብፅም ሆነ በቱኒዚያ የነበሩ አምባገነን መንግስታት የህዝብ ድጋፍ ስላልነበራቸዉ መንግስታቱ በአካባቢዉ ይከተሉት የነበረዉ ፖሊሲ የህዝብን ፍላጎት ያላንፀባረቀ ነበር። በአረቡ ሃገር የሚኖር ቁጥሩ ቀላል ያልሆነ ህዝብ አሜሪካ በአካባቢዉ የምትከተለዉን ፖሊሲ ይቃወም የነበረ ነዉ። አሜሪካ በህዝቡ ጫንቃ ላይ ለአመታት ተጭነዉ የቆዩትን አምባገነን መንግስታት በመደገፍ ስልጣናቸው እንዲራዘም አስተዋፆ በማድረጓ አሜሪካ በአካባቢዉ ህዝብ ዘንድ ያላት ተቀባይነት እጂግ ዉስን ነዉ።
በግብፅ እየተካሄደ ያለዉን ማዕበል አለም አቀፍ ትኩረት የሳበዉ ግብፅ ያላት የቆየ ታሪክና በአሁኑ ወቅትም የአረቡ አለም በተለይም የሱኒው አለም መሪ ተደርጋ መታየቷ ነዉ። ካላትም ተፅእኖ የተነሳ በመካከለኛዉ ምስራቅ በእስራኤልና በፍልስጤማዉያን መካከል በሚደረገዉ የሰላም ድርድር የአደራዳሪነት ሚና ስትጫወት ቆይታለች። ከዚህም በተጨማሪ የእስላም አክራሪወች በአካባቢዉ ያላቸዉ ሃይል አንዳይስፋፋ ከምእራቡ ጎን ተሰልፋ ታግላለች። የግብፅ እስትራቴጅካዊ ቦታ ላይ መቀመጧ – የቀይ ባህርንና የሜዲተራኒያንን ባህር የሚያገናኘዉ የስዊዝ ካናል – በክልሏ ዉስጥ መሆኑ ግብፅ ቁልፍ አገር እንድትሆን አድርጓታል። ግብፅ የአሜሪካ አጋር በመሆኗ በየአመቱ ቀላል ያልሆነ ወታደራዊና ኢኮኖሚያዊ ድጋፍ ስትቀበል ቆይታለች። ይህም ግብፅ ለአካባቢዉ ሃገሮች ፀጥታ ከምታበረክተዉ አስተዋፆ አንፃር ነዉ።
አሁንም ወደዴሞክራሲ ለመሸጋገር ለሚደረገው ትግል የተለያየ ምክንያት አያመጡ እንቅፋት መፍጠር የሚፈልጉ ሃይሎች አሉ። ለምሳሌ “ሙስሊም ወንድማማቾች” ስልጣኑን ይይዙታል በማለት የሚያስፈራሩ እና ከድሮዉ ከኢራን አብዮት በፊት ከነበረዉ ሁኔታ ጋር በማመሳሰል ለዉጡን በመልካም አይን የማይመለከቱ አሉ። እነኝህ ሃይሎች የዘነጉት ነገር ቢኖር በስልጣን ላይ የሚገኙ የአሜሪካ ደጋፊ የሆኑ አምባገነን የአረብ መንግስታት ስልጣን በእጂጉ የበሰበሰና በህዝብ ዘንድ ድጋፍ የሌለዉ መሆኑን ነዉ። በተጨማሪም አስካሁን ከሰማነዉ የአሜሪካ መንግስት አቋም መረዳት የምንችለዉ የግብፅን አብዮት እንደጥሩ አጋጣሚ በመጠቀም ሌሎች አምባገነን መንግስታት ወደ ዴሞክራሲያዊ ስርአት ሽግግር እንዲያደርጉ ነዉ።
የግብፅን አብዮት መጨረሻ ከአሁኑ ይሄ ይሆናል ብሎ መተንበይ ቢያስቸግርም – ሃገሪቱ የድሮዋ ግብፅ እንደማትሆን በእርግጠኝነት ለመናገር ይቻላል። ሁለት አማራጮች አሉ፡ አንደኛዉ ግብፅ ወደዴሞክራሲያዊ ስርአት የምትሸጋገርበት አማራጭ ሲሆን፤ ሁለተኛዉ ደግሞ አሁን ካለዉ ከሆስኒ ሙባረክ መንግስት የከፋ በኢራን ያለዉ አይነት የእስልምናን ሃይማኖት መሰረት ያደረገ፤ መሰረታዊ መብቶች የማይከበሩበት የጭቆና ስርአት የሰፈነበት መንግስት መመስረት ነዉ። አሁን ከምናየዉ ግብፅ ህዝብ አንዳንድ ገፅታወች መተንበይ የሚቻለዉ ህዝባዊ ፍላጎት የሚንፀባረቅበት ዴሞክራሲያዊ መንግስት እንደሚመሰረት ነዉ።
ይህ አብዮት ሌሎች የአካባቢ ሃገሮችን እያሳሰበ ነው። ስልጣናቸዉ ላይ ተደላድለዉ የተቀመጡ ሲመስላቸዉ የነበሩ አምባገነን መንግስታት በስጋት ተዉጠዉ በግብፅ እየተካሄደ ያለዉን በአትኩሮት እየተከታተሉ ይገኛሉ። ምኞታቸዉ የግብፅ አብዮት ከሽፎ እንዲቀር ነዉ። ያልተረዱት ነገር ቢኖር ግን ተቀምጠዉበት ያለዉ መሬት አንድ ቀን ተከፍታ ልትዉጣቸዉ እንደምትችል ነው። እንደ ቻይና ያሉ ሃገሮች የግብፅን ማእበለ ዜና እንዳይሰማ ህዝባቸዉን በጭለማ መጋረጃ ሸፍነዋል። የለዉጥ ማዕበል ግን ይዘገይ እንደሆን ነው እንጂ ማንንም አያልፍም።
የኢትዮጵያ ሁኔታም ከዚህ ብዙ የተለየ አይደለም። እንደግብፅና እንደቱኒዚያ ኢትዮጵያ በስልጣን ላይ የሚገኘዉ መንግስት ለረዥም አመታት የመንግስት ዙፋን ላይ ተቀምጧል። ምርጫ ቢያካሂድም ለተቃዋሚወች መሳተፊያ ቀዳዳ ባለመኖሩ ያካሄዳቸዉ ምርጫወች የህዝብን ፍልጎት የሚያንፀባርቁ አልበሩም። ለማስረጃ ያህል ባለፈዉ አመት በተካሄደዉ ምርጫ ገዥዉ ፓርቲ 99.6% ድምፅ በማግኘት “በማሸነፉ” ተቃዋሚወች ከአንድ የፓርላማ መቀመጫ የበለጠ አላገኙም።
ከግብፅ እና ከቱኒዚያ አብዮት መማር የሚቻለዉ አምባገነን መንግስታት ስልጣን ለመቆየት የሚችሉት ህዝባቸዉ ከሌላዉ አለም በጭለማ መጋረጃ ተለይቶ በድህነት ይኖር እንደሆነ ብቻ ነዉ። ሃገሮች ኢኮኖሚያቸው እና መካከለኛ ገቢ ያለዉ የህብረተሰብ ክፍል እያደገ ከሄደ፤ እንዲሁም ህዝብ እየነቃ እና እየተማረ በሄደ ቁጥር በአምባገነንነት ስልጣንን ይዞ መቆየት አይቻልም። የስልጣን መተማመኛ የሆነዉ የመካላለያ ሃይልም ከመጥፎ እጣ አያድንም። ይህ እንዳይሆን መንግስታት ዜጎቻቸዉን ማዳመጥ እና ተገቢዉን የለዉጥ እንቅስቃሴወች ከወዲሁ መጀመር ይኖርባቸዋል።

Right on brother Andualem! Ethiopia needs more people like you to speak the real truth. The most hated dictator tyrant Meles has been causing immeasurable damages to our people and our country ever since he took power by force twenty years ago. Compare to other brutal African dictators, tyrant Meles is the worst of them all. Ethiopians need to be informed about what Meles and his cronies are doing to their beloved country and their fellow Ethiopians around Ethiopia. The next few years is very crucial and woyanes need to be stopped.
Without unity, I think it is a wishful thinking. The so called Kinijit, how many party they became now? Shame on them. And on the other hand, the ethnic parties, OLF, ONLF, ….etc. With this type of deep division, give me a break! The leaders of all these parties, organizations,…are not even capable of seeing the danger ahead.
With one ethnic group leading the military, I guess it is unrealistic. I suggest to whoever orchestrate this issue, first to work on unifying the oppositions across the board. You are dealing with butcher Meles and butcher TPLF. These are half human half wild.
Without the unity, I rather watch and enjoy the courageous Tunisians, Egyptians, Yemenis, Lebanon, Jordan, and the rest Middle Eastern countries.
I do not think that such a huge demonstration will take effect in Ethiopia due to two main reasons;1
1. The army and the police are both controlled by Tigray people who are loyal to Meles, the will kill any one who treys to be at odd with Meles.
2. Ethiopian people are so divided more than any time in history. Ethnicity has more place than Ethiopia as a nation. This division has been seen on several occasions. In 2004 when Oromo students demonstrated against Meles all other students kept silent. When students grom Gojam demonstrated against Meles due to farm land issue in Gojam no body has shared their pain. Meles knows all these divisions by heart and he uses it very effectively. So who do you think will start the up-rise? If Oromo students start they will be called OLF supportors, if Amhara students start they will be called naftagnas, but the Tigray people will never start any thing. For Ethiopia I do not see any mass movement that could bring down the government. The only way to freedom is if Meles dies by HIV or car accident.

What ever our people choose to do, prior our planning doing it we need to show some attitude change on our part-lessen the rhetoric and hate filled messages. We need to strive to comment ideas that promote unity instead of dissension. Also, I see no need to give out vital information ahead of time to the regime. Isolated actions planned to be taken by some need to be discouraged; if call is made for action it needs to be a collective response.

Africans have lost dignity. We tend to think that democracy is a luxury. We tend to think that authorties are to be feared not loved. We tend to think that leaders are untouchable. We tend to think human beings are no different than chicken. We tend to think that bread comes first more than human dignity. We tend to think that me me is more important than we or them. We tend to think that violence must be removed through violence. Until we work on our values, we as Africans will never have Ghandis except Madela whose voiced is not to be heard any more. Should not Mandela step in? Where is AU? Is AU just for dictators who womenize our women in Adddis drink vodka and drive mecredes. While our economy is getting shatered.
Like in Egypt everybody who is seeking change is now viewed as Islamic extremist. Look at Somalia. Look at Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Morroco. Can you believe that these people live under curfew and are under emergency law?
