I am a city dweller in Vancouver, Canada,(not a Habeshane) a great admirer of Ethiopian athletes. I like them all, but Dibaba is my favorite.

I think the author did a great job of explaining the strange new phenomenon of supporting two closely matched Ethiopian Athletes.

Its important that these rivalaries push the athletes to do their best. Meseret and Tirunesh have pushed eachother to break records.

I especially loved the reference to what type of fans that Tirunesh and Meseret have. It is very clear that Meseret is very very popular...because of her outgoing personality. It is also clear that Tirunesh is the superior athlete.

Tirunesh's golds in cross country, world championships and now on the biggest stage cannot be matched.

During these Olympiad, Ethiopians from all walks of life are rooting for Ethiopian athletes and nothing more. Indeed we are fortunate to have the two most outstanding runners of our time running for Ethiopia. The 5000 run is an individual competition and all Ethiopians are saying is may the best and the fastest of them WIN!

Please stop writing trash about fan bases or city slicker hippies versus nature loving country people. We are glad both are Ethiopians and we are happy and proud of their achievements so far. May the best and the fastest of them win and may Ethiopia sweep the gold and silver again!
