BEIJING (AP) — Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia has won the 5,000 meters to complete an unprecedented women’s Olympic distance double.
Watch video here.
Tirunesh, the world record-holder, won the 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 41.40 seconds on Friday night. It’s her second gold of the Beijing Games after her triumph in the 10,000.
The 23-year-old Tirunesh also won the 5,000-10,000 combination at the 2005 world championships but only chose to defend the 10,000 in Osaka last year.
Elvan Abeylegesse of Turkey won the silver. She also finished second in the 10,000.
Ethiopian world champion Meseret Defar took bronze in the 5,000 in 15:44.12.

Wow! 2nd gold medal for us by you? What a wonderful accomplishment.
Tirunish good job! We all are proud of you. And congratulations all Ethiopians. I am also glad Meseret Defar brought bronze using this occasion. I am hoping we will hear another good news tomorrow by our hero’s on men’s 5000m as well.
Our next accomplishment for the rest of Ethiopians would be getting rid of the weyane MENGA criminal group from Ethiopia before the 2012 London Olympics. Yes! We all can do it along with the best leaders of Ginbot 7.
Lets us all become heroes of our country as Tirunish, Meseret, kennenissa, sileshi and others. Lets all contribute our best potential to Ginbot 7 and bring down the Weyane criminal groups.
Yes we can!!!!Yes we can!!!
Victory to the Ethiopian people!!!
Death to weyane criminal members and supporters!!!!!!!

Congratulations Tirunesh – so much for the rivalry – Tirunesh doesn’t waste energy with talk and public relations but she does it time and again with grace and elegance – Tirunesh is by far the most descent athelete. Meseret has something to learn from another graceful athelete by the name of Sileshi Sihine who by the way is engaged to Tirunesh. Tirunesh and Sileshi deserve each other – Congratulations again to Tirunesh and Sileshi and wishing you the best!!!!

Well done Tiruye and well done Mesi! All Ethiopians are proud of you two today. I hope the shameless Woyanie idiots will not repeat the opening ceremony fiasco and will see you at the closing ceremonies on Sunday.
