Hi Everyone,
It is good to see how Ethiopian are united in terms of protesting in one language. The dictators don't like to see when Ethiopian speak one language I think that is why the dictators are working hard to divide the citizen in language, culture and religion. What happen to Voa I was expecting something to hear from it especially after the interruption of Meles's speech. The interruption was needed to show the dictator how Ethiopian are united and one in terms of unity. But why voa hide the reality? This is unanswered question to me, because we cannot forget the role of voa Amharic service during Mengistu's dictator regime. But now what happened? I was expecting something from voa but there was nothing rather than voa's effort to exaggerate the numbers of supporter of Meles instead the reality. I am telling voa something true, America is always stand with the people not with the dictator as we are witnessing what happened in Egypt and other countries, ultimately America will stand with the people, voa amharic must know that. You may support Meles Zenawi , why you hide the truth you guys are in America where the Bill of Right is well respected, and the free country in terms of the right of press and speech. Whom you afraid of? Now to me voa is no more the credible source of news no more ! but the supporter of the dictators. I must tell you the truth right now you will be embarrassed when America will come to hear the people of Ethiopia instead the dictator. We cannot define Ethiopia based on Meles's relatives and cousins success and accomplishment, there is no reason that Meles represents the people of Ethiopia. While the price of everything is sky rocketing. Voa please change your political arena and stand with the people based on the worst case scenario.

Dawit,

The way you put it is in a cool way. I think you are cool. But the situation we are in is not that cool.
Ethiopians have been nice to this Tigrian ethenic apartide junta for the last 20 years. What did we get out of it? More oppression, more eviction, more imprisonment, more torture, more death, more...., more..... . Now Ethiopians have started using any means necessary to voice their grievances. And by the way that "BALL EYED MIDGET" is not Ethiopians' PM. He is our killer. We can not tolerate him any more.
Dawit, how did you see the demonstration outside the Reagan building? Was it civilized and productive? For us it was very CIVILIZED and very PRODUCTIVE. Ethiopians had a lot of civilized protests in the past, but they never got any news coverage. But this time the world got the chance to know the real nature of this Midget. Weather we like it or not there are more things to come. Ethiopians have said "BEKA" to this Midget.
Dawit! When you deal with an animal be an animal. If you want to deal with it in a "civilized way" you will pay dearly, like we paid for the last 20 years.

I know Abebe since his time at AAU. He is eloquent and smart. I wish he could ask Meles tough questions instead of trying to embarrass him in front of all the people. For better or worse (legal or illegal), Meles represents all Ethiopian people as a PM. What happened was that simple frustration got the best of Abebe. Trying to embarrass Meles would not do any good ...to any political cause. Though I admire Abebe’s courage....the courage could have been used productively in a civilized and productive manner. For example he simply could ask about imprisoned journalists and activists...and why there is no freedom in Ethiopia although the government says otherwise. Once we become emotional it is hard to be rational....this is the curse of Ethiopian politics...wherever it is and whoever practices it.

What a week end we had, for good or bad. First of all I will like to apologize for the comments I made the last couple of times, I think I could express my opinion in a more civil way. However, the action of Abebe was a little to crazy too, especially for a journalist of his statue. I know sometimes emotion get over us and we act in uncivilized way, but I think there are better ways to do things. Anyways, I will take this opportunity to clarify myself and express my takes about the state of Ethiopia.

It is indubitable fact that in recent years the image of Ethiopia has been in a more positive tone than it has ever been in many years. Ethiopia is scoring a high rate of Economic growth from time and again and the country is getting a much needed attention from the world body. I know, some of you mainly in the diaspora are very skeptical or in denial of the facts and just like to criticize the government of Ethiopia for what hasn’t been fully accomplished, like the uncontrolled rate of inflation, income inequality and some freedom issues. However, I don’t think it is wise and fair to look only the negatives aspects and give a blind eye for many of the positive things achieved, because things aren’t that black and white. May be if it helps I will try to give my perspective of Economics in general and relate the situation in Ethiopia and explain why I think everything isn’t doom and gloom in that country.

Economics by its basic nature is a give and take phenomenon and usually when you fix one problem you might create another one. A good example can be, the actions taken after 2008 worldwide recession, as we been observing many western countries have to spend a lot of many in order to foster grow while piling up a lot of debt. What is happening in Ethiopia in recent years is not any different, as we know there is a massive investment on infrastructures, housing projects, agriculture, industry, education and other by the government to lay a fundamental foundation for the economy. It is a no brainer that for growth and transformation of one country a well-developed infrastructure is very crucial. To move goods around, there need to be a sufficient road networks and other means of transportations like a train. To grow the industry sector there have to be an abundant energy supply, raw material and skilled personals. To have a very productive agriculture, there have to be advance farming system.

So the question is, how does the government of Ethiopia fund all this investment? The answer is mainly by borrowing from the banks and other countries and some of it from donation and other is by printing more money, and rest is by raising revenue through taxation and other ways. When the government borrows excessively and prints lots of money without balancing, it leads to a high circulation of money in the system and that lower the value of the currency and leads to inflation, noting that there are also a number of other factors which create inflation, domestic and global, energy crisis is one it. So, even if I believe the government should try hard to ease the out of control inflation, a continuous effort of more investment on infrastructure in Ethiopia is a very good idea. Ethiopia is a very poor country and there are not many choices other than taking strategic risks to grow the economy and there isn’t a magic bullet to solve the many problems we have. I believe give and take the country is heading the right direction. I think ones we have many roads, when there is sufficient energy source, when there is a good network system, and when more people educated, more opportunities will be created and more people will have higher income and life will get better. It is not gone be easy, there will be many bumps on the way, but I’m sure with courage and perseverance we can get ourselves out of the ditch we been buried for many years.

I consider myself an independent person not a diehard supporter of EPRDF or a hater. Hating each other or hating the government with a blind eye, because the government is not doing everything what we want, or by seeing everything from only ethnic point of view is not a good idea. I don’t consider EPRDF leadership as the ideal one I envision for my country, but I don’t want hold them accountable for every wrong in that country too.

Here are some of the credits I think the government deserve, the building of the Abay dam and other dam, the incredible progress of the Ethiopian Airlines, the development in the education and health sector, the effort of the government to attract more foreign investment and other. It is very surprising and even shocking when I see people criticize the building of Abay and also want to boycott one of our much respected Airlines, it is very crazy. Anyways, there is no government in the world who will able to satisfy 100% of its society. Melse is by no means comparable to Hitler, and I don’t think he is working day night for the destruction of Ethiopia, given some of the problems in his leadership and the system as a whole. I also don’t think everything what he say is a lie. I’m sure history will judge him better.

I was an enthusiastic supporter of Kinjet 5 years ago and support them financially when they came to USA, but I have evolved since then and become more independent. I am not happy with everything what I’m seeing in Ethiopia and it hurts me a lot to see the suffering of the people, but I just have a feeling things will get better sooner than later with all the problems. I love my country to death, and pray every day and try hard to contribute my share to see shiny days ahead. You guys my call me naïve or other, but I am somehow different than majority of you guys who comment in this website is not because hoping to get any special deal from the government or other, It is maybe I see things differently. Peace and prosperity for our country. Those of you who like to criticize for my English; I will say it is not my major or my native language.

Damn, who is this? Azeb, is that you? Oh, don't be sure about that. Just because your husband is a killer, doesn't mean he can do that for ever and get away with it. Do you remember what happened to Mengistu? Who thought, one day, someone will come and get rid of him? That is how it goes my dear.

Terrorist Meles is back to his fiefdom, Ethiopia, to continue terrorizing the Ethiopian people and to keep plotting against them and their interests. Tyrant Meles went back with his head down and with a slow-acting (silent) fatal stroke he sustained from the lightning blow delivered by our gallant award winning world class journalist Abebe Gellaw last week in Washington, D.C. It does not require to be a prophet to say that this heroic act of our hero Abebe Gellaw on that fateful day of the 18th of May of the year 2012 has a far reaching cascading effect and is no doubt a turning point in the struggle of the Ethiopian people for freedom, dignity and democracy. The terrorist mafia camp run by the ringleader Meles is already in more crises and visibly in disarray after the incident. Terrorist Meles is wounded irredeemably and broken beyond repair by this spectacular attack. The Meles terrorist camp is burning and raging like the wildfire in the deserts of California in the middle of the peak of hot summer. The wildfire is all out there for all to see it through the screens of computers. The thunderous bell of 'FREEDOM, FREEDOM, FREEDOM' that rang and echoed in the halls of the Reagan Building in Wash., D.C. last week, through the impeccable and succinct voice of our gallant journalist Abebe Gellaw, will continue to reverberate and resonate throughout Ethiopia until freedom day comes. I would like to assure you that that day is not far off. I would say that this is just the beginning and portends what is in store for terrorist Meles and his gullible hodam henchmen, sycophants, ass-kissers and hirelings. We will liberate you minions from the slavery by terrorist Meles you are in. Our struggle for freedom and liberty will free you up from worshipping the terroristringleader, Meles. It will make you regain your dignity if there is any left in you. I can’t thank you enough Abe for rekindling the fire that is engulfing and destroying the Meles terrorist camp. I would like also to thank Mr. Obama from the bottom of my heart for bring in terrorist Meles to this stinging humiliation. Thank you so much also for shunning terrorist Meles. Terrorist Meles’s picture in the vicinity of Mr. Obama is no where to be seen. Even Meles’s lie factory, a.k.a. ETV, has been unable to come up with a single shot in the whole shenanigan. This clearly shows that President Obama has shunned terrorist Meles. Thank you Obama and I have your back.

That is exactly the right. They are equating Meles and TPLF as Tigray. They believe if they preserve Meles and Tplf then Tigrayans will be protected. They beleive Tigray has existed and has been there only because of Meles and Tplf. Tigrayans, are you saying you were never part of 3000 years history? Do you think you were just created by Meles and TPLF?

They are campaigning any thing that is against Meles and TPLF. Perhpas they should go to near Ethiopians and ask who Ethiopians are if they are scared of them. Ethiopians have always known Tigrayans are not against them but TPLF and Meles. Apparently some are trying to link and have benefited under this regime just for being Tigrayans. Meles or TPLF can't exist if they don't get support from majority Tigrayans, by appointing them to good positions and wealthy. Still, Ethiopians are not seeking revenge on those but to remove TPLF and Meles who is destroying other Ethiopians which is not fair. There are genuine Tigrayans who believe that this minority should rule because they don't want to lose their wealth and power, this means they are standing against the rest of Ethiopians and that the minority cannot rule the majority especially ORomos and Amara. With understanding of this, they much relinquish power and let equality prevail meaning of course all ethnic groups will not be in offices for the mere being certain ethnic group but, to distribute power where, obviously the majority will be recognize, which is the fact that they are Oromos and Amaras however, every other ethnic group also must hold office. Then appoint only based on merit and accomplishments. Based on merit in reality should be appointed. Merit meaning: your profession, experience, wisdom, talent, the ability to bring peace, development, equality etc. However, in reality, professions during our experience of bad leaderships has shown us that it has favored the pro ethnic groups past and present so it will be unfair for those who were not recognized based on their ethnic groups and therefore have lost the chance of profession. That is reason the power should be distributed based on majority, give every ethnic a chance and profession. It has to be mix of everything to distribute power and decision making in Ethiopia.

Woyane sympathizers are not supporting the dictator they are screaming for help to keep what they looted because of the dictator. They want to have their cake and eat it too. Typical criminals do not defend their behavior they kill the messenger that expose it. Do not blame Woyanes they are drunken with the blood of Ethiopians to protect their loot.

Any woyane that comes here to defend the dictator is afraid of the truth. They know the truth will send them all in jail where they belong. Since they can’t face the truth killing the messenger is their next best option they do to survive.

Look how ridicules Woyanes sound. They think ETV is the truth. It is like saying I will tell the truth about myself. They sound toddlers in a dipper in a grown up body. The problem is because they lie to themselves they do not smell their own stink to change their dipper. That is why their brain seized and their belly screams.

Folks! AVOID like the PLAGUE falling in to the useless contradictions and traps of putting freedom aginst the need for basic food security and freedom from hunger. First and foremost,it is BAD politics because you cannot choose between basic freedom of expression and basic freedom from hunger simply because they go hand in hand since freedom is also freedom from hunger as well as freedom for self expression and democracy as opposed to freedom of begging to eat.

Democracy, freedom of expression, freedom from hunger, etc. are all one and the same basic human needs. And you cannot claim that one basic human need is more important than another basic human need of the same category.
If you cannot eat you cannot fight.
If you cannot fight you cannot be free.

By arguing that we need freedom rather than food we are implying that these gathering and the assembled dictators are there to provide food to the starving population which is far from the truth. Remember the fact that most of those dictators and their activist cadres are gathering at the World Economic Forum mainly NOT to make food available(freedom from hunger)for all the needy majority but to device clever and tricky methods of modern day fertile farm land (Green Gold) and other valuable resources grabbing from under the feet of the starving resource owners and let them perish slowly but surely. Robbing some 99.6% of other peoples' valuable resources and in return giving some 2% crumbs in the form of food aid which may not even satisfy 1% of the basic food needs of the population is not feeding the population but stealing, cheating and fooling the population to death. Otherwise why do the 85 million Ethiopians constantly live in misery, complete underdevelopment, starvation, refugeeism and die performing slave labour in the Arab world and elsewhere?

Why do masses of Africans flee their resource rich continent, some dying along the road, others on arrival, others living in concentration camps even after arrival to the promised land?

Democracy, justice and freedom for all is the way!

Waka, now you confused everyone here. Do you know what you want to say? If it was me, I would rather shut up and let on-lookers think I am mute. You just embarrass yourself. Shut up!!!

Now for the rest you loafers!!! I was out there today in your midst. I counted all of you and there were about 28 of you only. And most of you have the look of those Dergists from a long gone era. You don't even look healthy with beer-guts in all. You should go to the gym and do some exercise instead. You look terrible. And why some of you were giving me a hostile look? I know why? Was that because I look like someone from Tigray? It seems you were investigating my looks staring at both sides of my eyes. I was the only one out there who can't hide being from Tigray. You guys are bigots. I will be among you whenever you gather up for such waste of time.
