Elias, why do you keep going to this fifth column so called journalist? can't you see the passion he has when he defended the vampire regime? ER investigative team should look into this guys activities? how does he make his living? does his lifestyle match his earning from ETV? The information I have so far is that Gizaw is under weyane payroll… I am sure this will come out sooner than later.

Are you kidding me! You are comparing Menilik with Woyane? Let me ask you a question. I do remember the day you defended the invasion of Somalia by Woyane. Your word were, “ I will not lose sleep by the action of Ethiopian forces in Somalia”. Do you still believe this? After avoiding listing to your rhetoric I stumbled on a link to this video. It is a shame that the interviewer (Ato Gizaw) is siding with Woyane from the very beginning. How much is he paid by Woyane to spill such slanderous remarks about Emperor Menelik II & Emperor Tewodros?
With little knowledge about Ethiopian history Ato Gizaw claims that all the commanders of the army during Emperor Tewodros were Gondere and all the commanders of the army during the period of Emperor Menelik II were Amhara.

The bottom line is Woyane's army is a bunch of mercenaries, period.

To me, Gizaw Legesse is a man that drifts around blindly. I heard him many times asking Elias if he has evidences, but Gizaw himself doesn't have evidences when he posed his questions. For example, his questions about EPPF are based on rumors. If he wants to know about EPPF, there are many people who have first hand knowledge about the organization, including those that built it, led it and visited it. Gizaw, your evidences to support your question about EPPF is unfounded. I would say this to you; "you have sightless eyes and echoing ears—no brain." Gizaw, your understanding about political party's multidimensional struggle is null. I don't for a second believe you feel the pain of the Ethopian people. You sound you have no clue at all. You behaved moron. History will remember you for siding Woyanies through spreading illusions about Arbegnoch. I have no doubt Arbegnoch will be triumphant regardless of the concerted effort of Woyanies and the likes of Gizaw, who time and again try to deter the bitter struggle of our people. Gizaw, it is good to know how you think.

Thank you for being voice of the truth, Elias! Your principled stand was too much for the Wayane stooge, host of the show, to handled! The stooge had no shame even to go as far as drawing apple and orange comparison by putting Wayane/Meles and patriotic Menelik….in the same footing??? I knew right there the guy was more Wayane than the Wayane themseleves, and one can tell he was sensing the audience were noticing that too! Despite all that, he had no shame whatsoever to turn around and ask the same Ethiopian diaspora for their hard earned money so that, amazingly, his show to reach Ethiopians back home???

I don't agree with most of the comments. The moderator tried to balance the interview by trying to present the other point of view although at times he stumbles.
You can learn similar strategies in the US main TV stations, when they interview Democrats or Republicans they present the opposite view.
Some of Elias's comment does not follow logic or common sense, like when he said "the CUD leaders abandon their supporters and and went to jail" as if they voluntarily locked themselves up. He was also too harsh on his comment on Andinet party and tried to compare Obama with Burtukan. How many of Obama supporters detained or killed? Obama was also able to use Democratic party machine in the general election after the primaries. Elias you are comparing apple and orange. Mr Gizaw could have raised this point.

Reading most of these comments is depressing. I will never understand how we are going to get a solution for our country's too many problems if we can't even agree to disagree. I wonder what most of this people who comment about Mr. Gizaw being woyane is watching at home. When we watch CNN, ABC, NBC, BBC or any other free media, the Journalist asks the gust about the other side of the story NOT because he supports it but to challenge him or her and show the whole picture.
Our brothers and sisters live under the most dictatorial regime in the world but they have a better understanding and appreciation of free media and independent journalism than most of us who live here in the west.
I hope we all can support ETN's effort to reach Ethiopia and create a platform that give everybody to show what they are going to do to solve our problems and let the Ethiopia people make the choice. The last time they had a chance to choose we know what happened.

This interviewer is the most stupid, uninformed, what is wores is that a man like this was leading the country back and days. he has no concept of highter thought, or even basic understing of how socity functions. if this what ETN offer as host we are a laughting stock. Elias, I am really proud of you. You know well Ethiopia's issues and well defended us from Gizawu's wicked confusion and disorientations. Oh God! how many anti Ethiopians are there around the world? My other observation is that gzaw's knowledge is very shallow. Even he cannot say Dre-gets! What a shame. And yet he wants to play with your intelligence by stating that menelik had Amhara soldiers! Does gizaw read history? Does he read about dechazmach Balcha? He wanted to mix issues like all other woyanes, but you have aborted it. I am worried that he is working with such important interviews! According to my indicators he is a typical woyane Cadre.
Finally let me tell you that I like the following points you made:

Where do they take you for the interview; Kenyan farmers now a days have mobile phone communicating each other with no interruption and ETN sitting in a country communicating with the Rover in Mars don't know how effectively to communicate in USA, very funny and in a simple term these guys they are way back and they need to go school at least for up grading.
AS to the interview Mr. Gizaw has a lack of the know how to have a political interview, in trying to have a balanced conduct an interview and without his knowledge he was biasing, siding to minority tugs. Elias, I normally don't subscribe to your ideology, nor do I normally support your tactics on how to struggle against Weyanne (especially, your 'love affair' with shabia does not sit well with myself and my friends). However, this time, I have to salute you on your presentation skills during this interview. You have handled the issues much better than the so-called 'interviewer'. Your points were were well-reasoned, solid and on the most part based on facts.
The 'interviewer' was clearly arguing with you rather than asking the questions. He had every chance to make it a very good and a challenging interview. Nonetheless, what we witnessed is tit-for-tat nagging by the interviewer. What we witnessed was a vehement argument by Gizaw (a bad argument at that) as if he is the interviee. It was evident that he lacked historical perspective, while Elais' historical account and perspective was focused and on target. It is a shame that this individual is placed as a journalist. The failure of this interviewer speaks more about the kind of people that are running ETN. If ETN wants to be taken seriously, it should weed out such so-called journalist for its own good.

I have two comments: on you and on your supporters.
1. You unethically called names, like Prof Mesfin and Prof Beyene as "denkara". The fact is that, these are the people who are really taking the heat from woyane, and sharing the ups and down of the very Ethiopian people. Action speaks louder than words.
Elias, you are good at insulting, intimidating, and harassing anyone differing with your philosophy. Your hope is hinged on "yearbegnoch gimbar" and on Esayas Afeworki. To me, Yarbegnoch gimbar is not a full fledged organ. Nobody really knows their policy, program and strategy. That is why they don't even have the website or communication outlet. Their presence is expressed nowhere but only on your website. On the contrary, local political groups are visible and accessible to the Ethiopian masses. Thesedays we are hearing the two big parties of Oromia (headed by Dr Merara and Ato Bulcha) is ready to merge, which is a very good move in Ethiopia.
It is good to promote your preferred organization. But discrediting famous leaders in Ethiopia wouldn’t add any merit to your preferred party. Frankly speaking, whenever you try to discredit Prof Mesfin, the person who has the scar to prove his sacrifice, you should realize that you are shedding off your supporters. He is true veteran, who unequivocally challenged the Emperor; Dergue; and Woyane. He never opted to hide in USA and encouraged others to opt for armed struggle. If you really are true to your words, please show us your determination to join the armed struggle.
2. I think your supports need your assurance. Have you observed how they screamed? They are freaked and scared. They seem to have disappointed by the questions of interviewer. According to them, asking you some questions is a “taboo”. As they are in the process of idolizing you, they think that your words are sacred and tantamount to a bible. You have to assure them that “such worry would lead to a ‘one man show’ and eventually to ignorance”. It is through open debate and discussion that the ultimately truth reveals.
If you are happy with their blind support and are boosted by comments of those hardliners, you can skip my second comment.
My conclusion is that it is rather your unchallenged and unaccommodative approach which is becoming "denkara" to the struggle which is led by scholars and dedicated politicians.
I'll be glad if you could post it. If you don't, I wouldn't be surprised.

I know ato Gizaw. I went in the same school with him. He is total moron D student. It took him 10 year to be Junior. Not even sure he graguated at all. He was loughin stock of the Ethiopian community. It is sahme on ETN and us, some d lister like this moderating with Elias.
I would ask elias for him to do Pay per view for converstaion amongst Mr. Almariam, Dr. Birhanu and the like.
Elias you truly are an amazing korate wondata. Your courage is just amazing. Keep it up. Would suggest for your website to carry web-dialogs more frequently. Just like C-span. You will have more audiance – and you wouldn't have to deal with idot owyane stugees like Gizaw.

what i see is that the people in eritrea and ethiopia are ahead of their elite leaders. problems are exacerbated by these leaders. the people even if they want justice, they need leaders. but the leaders so far have been opprtunistic, selfish. i think eritreans and ethiopians are ready to elect a democratic government in their respective country and work together but still they need honest, heroic, fair leaders who are not opportunistic, who don't change their views just for political advantage.
ELIAS might have the right idea, but he is open, he says what he think and he doesn't change his views day by day

I do not want to inflate your ego by praising you to much. But i say this. If we Ethiopians have people like you, TPLF would have gone to the thin air long time ago. You have left a good example for many on how firm they should stand if they really think they are opposing TPLF.
I am really impressed with the way Elias told Gezaw that the so called Educated elites like him and Professor Mesfin w/mariam are helping TPLF for an easy rule by subscribing the dead peacefull struggle which lead us to a simple slavery. It was a polite but decisive way of Telling Gizaw that him and Prof. Mesfin are house niggers.

I agree that the moderator isn't real professional. But, he was trying to bring the other point of view. He was trying to make the conversation interesting. I am sure he isn't Woyane. Elias, you actually called some names. That is not ethical. Me and You agree with the One Ethiopia slogan. But I believe you're a little to quick to judge. one thing you need to remember is that you're here in the U.S. If you're a brave man, please join EPPF and do the real manly thing. Please don't preach war and violence while you're hear and poor brothers and sisters will give their life away. I still say 'Give Some Time to UDJ'. Let me tell you what motivated me to write this short comment. I do not agree with most of ER publisher’s point of view but after watching your unprofessional and ill prepared interview I could not remain silent. ER publisher was equally unprepared and sometimes rambling with statement that do not make sense but at least he has the backbone to standup and expose many atrocities. One question you try to corner ER publisher with was “Is Woyane/Meles Ethiopian”?
My learned moderators here are some points that could have been obvious to you and put your mind to rest.
-To begin with, as any foreign invader, Woyane started dismantling Ethiopian and its institutions
-The ongoing bantustanization of the country and the slaughter of citizens of Ethiopia
-After the end of Ethio-Erit war the signing of agreements by Woyane (to the astonishment of judges at The Hague) that benefited the loser/Eritrea.
-Allowing the plunder of the country by its cronies and so called “investors” with questionable backgrounds and with no evidence as to how much of their “investments” brought foreign money to the country.
-The illegal invasion of Somalia and slaughter of Ethiopian solders in Somalia
-Have you ever heard Meles say he is Ethiopian?

Having said this, I have to confess that I am not a subscriber of ETN and I have not watched your programs before. From what I heard ETN is struggling to survive and stay in the media business. I think one reason of ETN’s failure could be having a program such as yours. The management of ETN should seriously think abut having you on the air. Some people tried to point out that you were attempting to dig the facts as any journalists would.
My dear moderator, the fact is that you were insulting your listeners’ intelligence. Why would I or any Ethiopian subscribe to ETN and watch you and your ridiculous arguments that any mediocre journalist could have done better?

Just try to entertain negative but constructive comments given by readers. Like the excellent comment posted by Zaddis above. Just try not to be taken away by narrow minded comments from guys who always agree with you in every issue. Don't think having a website, with a audience of less than 1% of Ethiopian population, give you the moral ground to say whatever you like about oppostion leaders who sacrified their freedom, time and resources for a cause they belive in. How come you argue Kinijit didn't bring any change to Ethiopia. You yourself said it in the same interview that woyanne lost te 2005 election. Who won the election? Wining an election againist a monster regime who belives killing and arresting as a solution for every oppostion, is a big deal. Didn't you see 1 million Ethiopians partcipating in a peaceful demonstration called by the first non ruling party in our country's history on Miazia 30, 1997 E.C. For those of us who had belived a united oppostion in Ethiopia is not possible, the way Kinijit established was a source of hope. Unlike you there are people still belive what Kinijit started will lead us to what we wish to see happened in our country. Thanks to guys like you we don't have respectable leaders who lead the oppostion against this criminal gov't. Instead of exaggertaing the difference between oppostions, you can play a role of a bridge between them. Until we get one true oppostion leader, discouraging the existing oppostion leaders no matter how we beleive they are worng is a nobrainer. Finally I ask you to just review your performance in this interview and decide what your role should be. I advice you just be a journalist at least for the next few years until you get the desired maturity. Allow everyone a fair share in your website. People say good things about you because they don't have many options to see others. How many of Ethiopians in diaspora have a website called Ethiopian review? Don't kid yourself.

I can't help it but to pencil in my 2 cents in this political drama. As a regular ER visitor, I was surprised at some of the accusations directed at the moderator.I don't know how any body can reach a conclusion and accuse Mr Gizaw being woyane from this interview. A lot of us in the metropolitan area including myself know Mr Gizaw's contributon and involvement in exposing woyane's atrocites
towards the Ethiopian people.He is one of the few individuals who opposed woyane relentlessly from the beginning by participating in opposition groups and most recently a member of former Kinijit.I challenge all of you who made a comment by calling Mr Gizaw 'woyane"agent of woyane' 'akatari' to come foreword and substantiate your allegations to the readers.
Let me just say, Mr Gizaw is no WOYANE!!!
As for Mr Mamo's comment( comment # 33) I am not sure if you are aware of Mr Gizaw's credentials. Just for the record, Mr Gizaw holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He is a high level senior manager and enjoys a very successful professional life.Mr Mamo, with all due respect, instead of directing your comments on the issue discussed,you want to play the politics of personal destruction.I don't know if you are familier with it but,there is a saying…' TO BELITTLE IS TO BE LITTLE' your intention to confuse the readers by distorting and claiming to know Mr Gizaw will not go unanswered by those people who know him really well.
I watched the interview and my assessment of Mr Gizaw's questioning style is very refreshing and entertaining.I thought he was engaging,persistent and very effective in follow up questions.He comes to the interview prepared and he is not shameful to ask tough questions.

i know you love ethiopia. i only say one thing for you, be a bit of open minded, you made so many sensible arguments, you also made so many blunders, like comparing american with ethiopian politics, supporting anti-ethiopians like olf, onlp… for me, we need all the opposition, inside and outside, peaceful and armed… Therefore, give them a break and a judge.
for your supporters, especially in the diaspora was Stephen Sucker Woyane when he interviewed Hailu Shawel, was he Kinjit when he interviewed Meles. I thought you know better. anyone not agreeing with you is Woyane, right?
Elias, i think you are smart and zealous, but please give a chance to those who chose the peaceful struggle. Let them be around and make thier little contribution in exposing Woyanes devilish acts.
Woyane controls all the neighbouring countries and can you really trust Shabia who knows that the opposition is its worst enemy than woyane? The warefare is tough call but i don't oppose it so long as it weakens woyane.

Elias it was a good interview I have had a mixed feeling about you and I still do but what I admire about you is the uncompromising stand the fearless character and similar aspect of it.I am shocked with the interviewer his one leg is anti Woyanaay the other leg pro-woyanay a very undecided very ill prepared individual.What pissed me most was that he poses a question if there is any evidence of Meles not being an Ethiopian.Of course Melles is not an Ethiopian wasn't Melles & company who started preaching Ethiopia is only 100 years old upon his arrival, was it not Melles who said the flag is a piece of cloth…infact these are the people(interviewer) who damage the arm struggle or the non-violent movement all together!!!They could create more damage to our Unity;another issue is his comparisson of Menilik's army with Woyanay's army!what a looser it is even impossible to compare it with facist Mengistu's army.Thank God the program was done in Amharic all in all it was good you were out there.

Are you not watching the same interview posted here. You are bunch of unprofessional slobs. One funny moment was a 'production crew' walk infront of the camera in the middle of the interview. If you still insiste the interviewer was not siding with woyane you either are smoking something or you are bent on the distruction of Ethiopia. I'll bet it is the later.

I happen to be very well aquainted with Ato Gizaw, despite the many accusations made against him, he is a man of extreme integrity, and he is one of the most intelligent, generous person I have ever had the pleasure to know.
Regarding the factually incorrect comments about his political associations, I from first hand experience know that he is very dedicated weyanne opposition leader. He has contributed more time, personal money, and insight to thwarting the weyanne than the oblivious commentators.
Addressing the accusations that he is on the weyanne payroll, I know as a fact that he is not. He is a high ranking engineer in the US Government.
Finally addressing the nasty, petty comments made about him, his clothes, etc… Despite the fact that you may differ from his political views, making comments such as those are completely uncalled for, and not productive in any way.

Elias you have impressed me because of this iterview, at the same time you have given a good lecture for many people including for mister Gizaw he was not really prepared for your level of interview. For instance he was compairing emperor Minilik with TPLF's Meles first of emperor Menilik himself was half Oromo in his mother's side. If anyone wants to know that just read Pawulos Nunu's book about Emperor Menilik's biography. Second his right hand General Gubena was an Oromo third it was not fair to compair early 20th century Emperor Menilik and 19th century Emperor Tedros with computer age 21st century Dedebit idiot TPLF's leader fascist with many names Meles Zenawi. I don't know if you people remember mister Gizaw however his view is not always clear as I have heard from prebious interview such as one of the interviews he made with VOA he was hard to grasp what he was saying even during this interview with Mister Elias it was hard for me what he was trying to say if he was trying to be seen fair and balance or supporting TPLF. Howbeit in this interview the winner was mister Elias and I think he made his stand clear for his enemies and supporters. Oh! my lord I am sure the TPLF camp was in panic mode, he hit them hard with no mercy just like Zeray Deres did in Rome Italy. I hope every webb will post this Interview unless it is Woyane supporter. Oh one more thing I have heard many of your interviews and you do not panic or get mad easily so do not forget that is a plus quality.

Dear Ato Elias, even though I don't have common opinion on most things I am respect you as you are a human & my fellow Ethiopian. But on your side Calling the moderator Ato Gizaw 'woyane"agent of woyane' and many more allegations shows how your listners understanding of democracy is under the see level.
Ato Gizaw with a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering & working in a high level managerial work is a well respected guy. And he is not paid at the ETN, he only works there to contribute his part for the democratic process in our community.
Ato Elias please teach your followers how distractive is the politics of personal destruction.
As to the interview he invited two different sides concerning the Ethiopian politics. He can question you any question on his program, do you guys live here in the developed world how peoples respect each other & still have very different stands on any issues.
Please let us grow & understand the concept of democracy, entertaining all different ideas.
That will help our country & the next generation in dealing with our problem.

I used to enjoy ER way when in the early 90s. i used to even subscribe. It used to be our only window to Ethiopia for those of us in the US. Things have changed and thanks God most people get their daily dose of news from other sources. ER's reality is quite scary. And more scary is hearing its publisher being interviewed.
I wish I had such a mediocre view of life in general and Ethiopia in particular.
I am even more happy that I do not have to get Elias' approval to declare myself "Ethiopian". Because I am not sure if I would meet his criteria as I do believe the Army in Somalia is Ethiopian and I do not share his opinion that Ethiopian army is defeated in Somalia.
Basically, the Ethiopian army went to Somalia for a surgical reason. Their job was completed in all of one week. It was heralded the world over as one of the most efficient military operations.
What the Ethiopian government did not anticipate is the fact that the world community did not step up to the plate and arrange for world peace keeping force to replace the Ethiopian forces. Honestly, the Ethiopian forces have been in Somalia for two years too long, substantially longer than it was anticipated.
The Ethiopian forces never intended to occupy Somalia. Ethiopia had legit reasons to interfere in Somalia. It was done at the request of the legal transitional government of Somalia, with UN and US blessing.
The Council of Islamic Courts, the forces that controlled Somalia in June of 2006, declared they will march to Ogaden, even before they controlled Mogadishu. A lot of apologists were heard at that time Ethiopia lacked just reasons to march to Mogadishu and suggested Ethiopia should have waited until invaded. Genius.
Ethiopia has now decided to hold the international community responsible and hand over the baby sitting job to others.
Elias hates Woyane. Ethiopia is ruled by Woyane, hence no good. Alas, we will always have rulers and leaders: Tewodros, Yohannes, Meinilk, Hailesilassie,Derg, Woyane. We shall always have one set of rulers at a time.
According to Elias' own admission, there is no political organization he does not oppose. He is so delusional he declares Ogaden worse than Darfur. He must be smoking something.
I do not know how I had the patience to finish the interview.
I lost it when he began lecturing about the phantom EPPF. I hope Elias suffers Solomon Tekalign syndrome and I hear to his interview on Radio Fana from Addis.
