Suspect arrested in U.S. diplomat’s death in Ethiopia

February 11th, 2009 |  |  9 Comments

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Reuters) – Ethiopian police have arrested a local man suspected of killing of a U.S. diplomat at his home in Addis Ababa, officials said on Wednesday.

The unnamed suspect was being transferred to the capital after he was detained by officers at Were-Illu village in the remote north of the country on Tuesday.

Local media reported that a laptop computer, mobile telephone, camera and several documents belonging to the U.S. diplomat had been found in his possession.

Diplomatic sources said the 25-year-old victim worked in the U.S. embassy’s consular section and had apparently been stabbed to death. His body was found at his home on Feb. 2.

State Department officials in Washington named him as Brian Adkins and said Ethiopia was his first foreign assignment.

This is outrageous. However, this is a clear manifestation of the fact that people are getting difficult to survive because of the higher living cost. I would not be surprised if Ethiopia becomes the new South Africa.

Look this drama how unfold: This is a work of the govenment of Zenawi (brutual dictator) killed the diplomat and pick some inocent man to use him as a skep got. The Melese zenawi has been ordered by the US department to investgate the matter quick. Therefore, they have to use somebody to cover up the killing of this young diplomat. We all knew this is the work of the government security with the new law passed to prevent the western NGOs from reporting the human right abuse in the country. The diplomat have lost his life speaking up front with the Meles’s officials like Berket Simon (the master of the killing throughout the country). Nobody in Ethiopia kill any foregin for any reason leave alone the very charming US diplomat!!! From time to time we see the work of the government planting a bom throughout the city and public transportation and blaming this group and that group just to distract the western diplomat as if he had unresponsabile enemy operating in the country.

All I say for the US State Department, keep on pressering this mafia style Melese govenment to stop playing with fire!

The truth will prevel soon what kind of govenment the Bush era was protecting and supporting in Ethiopia!!
My condolonce goes out to the young diplomat’s parents and relative!!!

It could be a woyane job. They probably suspected he is collecting evidence about their crimes. Or simply thought he is not their supporter. I blame woyane/melese

In a country filled with criminal law enforcers. It is very possible the police put evidence on an innocent guy to save the real killer.

  7. Shawl says:

I put the blame squarely on woyane too. Woyane probably suspected him of spying on them and decided to get rid of him. In my entire life, I have never heard an honest Ethiopian killing foreigners. Since woyane government is not Ethiopian, it is the only force capable commiting such crime. I say interogate woyane “kuncho” meles naziawi.

How can a man who is captured in the remote part of Ethiopia could break in a heavily guarded American’s diplomats house, steal documents (we can understand the gadgets) and flee without apprehension, this is totally ridiculous, if you read the book “Ye Gazetegnaw Mastawesha, you will know how the woyannes operate their Cosa Nostra style surviving methods, this innocent American has died for a reason we might never know, it makes me sad to see the Department of State being played by those stupid third world mafia style dictators, Ethiopian Review should write a strong letter to Hilary Clinton’s office and to the Diplomats family about this matter to look into it or send the FBI to conduct the investigation because this will give a bad impression on the Ethiopian Diaspora which is now already suffering a bad reputation because of the recent awful killings within our own community, I guess we are hearing one or two murders and suicides in the Ethiopian Community in Diaspora. Plus, remember the unexplained conspicuous suicides and deaths of the most prominent Ethiopian businessmen we lost in one month alone and now a bizarre explanation of the death of a very well guarded American diplomat.
My heart goes out to the American Diplomat, the latest foriegn victim of the Ethiopian fake government conspiracy,
God Bless Ethiopia and the US we are living in,
