Tamrat Layne visits Alcatraz Prison, San Francisco

Tamrat Layne and family the notorious Alcatraz Prison in California – March 2009

It is interesting to see that former {www:Woyanne} Prime Minister Tamrat Layne has now joined the ranks of some of the people he chased out of their country. Tamrat, who threw distinguished Ethiopian surgeon Prof. Asrat Woldeyes in jail and eventual death, is back as new person — as a Pentecostal minster — right here in the U.S. among us. It is ironic that the guy who denied freedom to millions of Ethiopians and took away the lives of so many of our compatriots is here amongst us visiting American cities and historical places such as the notorious Alcatraz Prison in northern California.

Many of our brothers and sisters under Tamrat’s orders were thrown out into the Alcatrazs of Ethiopia, or their bodies thrown to the sides of the road. Amhara peasants were massacred by angry mobs who were agitated by his ‘Tut Koreta’ (breast-cutting) Memorial Day celebrations in such places as Bedeno. The memorials were imaginary celebrations that were held to enrage the local Oromo Ethiopians and rise up against the Amara peasants who were identified as perpetrators of the imagined crime that alleged to have had occurred over 100 years ago. The agitation had worked and resulted in the slayings of hundreds of Amharas in Arsi and Harrar regions. It is these massacres that forced Prof. Asrat Woldeyes to establish an organization that would speak out against the killings and sufferings of Amhara Ethiopians.

Tamrat Layne and family at Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco – March 2009

Now, as a “family-man,” Tamrat is walking happily on Fisherman Wharf in San Francisco, visiting the famous Golden Gate Bridge, as if he has not denied the happiness of many families and violently took away the lives of many innocent loved ones.

Although Tamrat himself may have been thrown in jail after disagreement with his puppet-master Meles Zenawi, he had equally participated with other Woyane officials in ordering killings and unleashing sufferings against countless innocent Ethiopians. He remains a criminal at large that many Ethiopians would like bring to justice — no matter how religious he looks and sounds now.

  1. Hate is contagious disease. Guilt by association is what you guys are preaching. Eng. Hailu Shawel has worked for Derg but he was the “king” of Ethiopian opposition. There are hundreds of Derg kadres who are magnificent heroes in US while they did partake in the 17 years of dictatorship. No body said anything about Siye Abrha on his release because he didn’t become protestant!? How about Dr Negaso Gidada? For millions of the followers of the faith your hate and insult with no space for investigation and mercy is troubling. Love is the ultimate solution to bring us out of the quagmire we are in. Howerver, I would say, if anyone of you could bring legitimate case against Tamrat have it your way but don’t mix it with the faith. That will be a prudent way to follow.

  2. No matter what Tamira’s religeous stand he has to face real justice. Now he is a christian convert (previously he was communist)and this is purely spritual issue. Whether God forgives him or not is not our business. As a human being we need worldly justice for the crimes he did.

Recently things are getting funny. Tamirat, Siye,Gebru, Negasso, ….are criminals. Some of them are masking them selves in the opposition camp and others like Tamira claiming to be religeous. Aren’t there any opposition group excluding criminal thugs?

  3. i do not understand what we want as an Ethiopia, is not he the first person in higher position able to ask Ethiopian people to forgive him about what he did wrong? we need to aperciate such steps if he really regraite about his wrong doing, i hope no one can say he has to kill himself.

  4. It is pitful that you are still talking about Tamrat Layne. What is wrong with you people. He has regreted and repented before his own people. Who do you think you are? I assume that most of you have done something wrong in life. I know that you were torturers or offsprings of torturers. Let any one who has not sinned cast the stone first. I know you can not. Please do not poison us.
    Tame we love you. Ayzoh.

  5. He is still trying to preach hate. I heard him on ETN say ‘the only way to democracy in Ethiopia is through the Bible’. How about the millions of our Muslim brothers and sisters? This ‘gegemas’ still thinks like ‘ye gari Feres’. This is what happens when you buy your degree from the ‘kift university’.

  6. It is really hard to believe what some folks are pleading the victimized people to forgive those who were traumatizing them not too long ago. Am I being told that former officials who urged and instigated others to kill the innocent can and will be cleared of any wrong doing? Am I reading them all right that the writings of some of such folks such as Mastewal, ethiopiayegna etc…Just do that? This will do great service for past and future killers. Idi Amin, please rise up!!! Seku Toure, please rise up, Mobutu, Please rise up! Mengistu please come back home!!! Hitler, please rise up!! Mussolini, please rise up!!! All rise up and go to Addis and join the Pentecostal church!!!! Declare you are born again!!! Talk some talk in tongue! Give me some dancing on the floor!!! You are guaranteed freedom and absolute pardon!!! May be, kill again and do the same thing again!!! You are the child of God!!! Is that what Jesus said? Did he!!!! Vehemently no!!!!!

  7. He is primely responsible for the mass death of Ethiopians . Every ethiopian never forgets what he speaks in Somali region. And nobody can forget the ethnic conflict that resulted as a result.
I wonder where are the Ethiopian elites. I am sorry when i see that Ethiopia has no elite who can file charge against Tamirat.
Religion can never be cover for man like Tamirat

  8. where are the so called Ethiopian diaspora now? is it acceptable just to report Tamrat enjoying life in US? why don’t the community sue him and bring him to justice for the crime he commited, be it in the international criminal court or in any of the United States court. Tamrat is no less a criminal than the deported Red Terror man from US a while ago.
It really makes me sad to see the big mouth opposition medias, it includes you Elias, but do nothing special when time allows us to achieve something.

I call on all Ethiopian community, the opposition groups, the human right groups, the scholars etc… to document enough evidence and make Tamrat Layne stand in the court in US. He can’t live with the cover up of religion. Let’s take a lesson from the brave ethiopian woman who made the Red Terror criminal deported back to Ethiopia last time. Tamrat is no less a criminal than the deported guy.
    Take action

  9. I read not even one positive comment on this page. Too much negativity and hate for someone who is asking for forgiveness. We all are human beings so is he. We all make mistakes and if we are lucky enough, change for good like Tamirat did. He chose the right way out;Jesus is the right way to everlasting happiness and freedom. When I’m saying this, don’t think that I’m a protestant, I’m an Orthodox christian. But I don’t believe in names of religions and changing from one christian religion to the other. I believe chritianity is inside you and your did. So if we really are believers let’s forgive this man and try to like him instead of criticizing him for he is not but was.

  10. Tamirat, Jesus loves you. We all human beings make mistakes Follow Jesus and he will give you peace.Your sins are forgiven .we love you and Jesus loves you forever………….

  11. he never apologize he just cry in the name of jesus…..what a joke? let’s have demonstration and put this criminal where he belongs too. please do not forget what happen to innocent people in bedeno and arsi.

  12. I cannot judge on people judging on Tamirat Layne’s issue because to accept him strictly requires to be borne again in Christ. As to me,I beleive any thing immpossible for human beings is possible for God.To want his death is not from God;so,it is dangereous before God.God did not send Jesus to this world to judge on sinners but to forgive them and to save them not to do it again. There is no sin that the Blood of Jesus is unable to clean.

I pray for all of you.

  13. I cannot judge on people judging on Tamirat Layne. To accept him requires full understanding of the plan of God to siners.God did not send Jesus to condemn on siners but to forgive them and save them from such sinful life style. You can find in the Bible that the Blood of Jesus Christ is potential to clean any kind of sin.To want the death of Ato Tamirat Layne is not from God;so,it is dangereous before God.Ofcourse,to accept him requires to be borne again in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. It is that time we will have the Heart of Jesus Christ capable of forgiving from inside of our heart.

  14. God is God of mercy. Remeber apostel Paul who was persecuting christians, but later on God forgiven him and became a great man of God . Jesus said i came to call sinners not rightous people. so Jesus came and died for this kind of people. So if God accept him we can’t condemn him. please leave him alone

  16. You people do you know what you are talking . This man was jailed for 12 years and now he is free person . He did get also freedom from God .God is god of mercy . Those of you who are mocking on him let me ask you one question do you feel realy being clean when you are throwing stone on this man.How many of you didn’t committ sin so far no matter how big or small that sin in your face. Please come to your sense. Brother Tamirat Jesus has set you free from capitivity of sin and every evil. You are now new creature you are free person in christ. No body can accuse you rebuke any evil behind this people in Jesus name.
