Woyanes Scrambling to Close up Intellectual Gaps
Gindiba Adamu
04-30-09

Ethiopian situations are evidencing that Woyanes are trying to be smart by attempts of drawing intellectuals around their circles of belief via filling out open positions, recruiting new members and/or approaching low profile, moderate opponents as part of addressing their weaknesses in the arena. This effort has been intensified since the controversial 2005 election which woke them up from their long years’ sleep of undermining intellectual merit and values, while rather putting their whole blind trust in people who had strong belief in party programs and polluting ethnicity. The people through the ballot box voiced their demand to be led by individuals who possess strong educational background and strong sense of national unity overwhelmed by prevalence of individual rights. Such ingredients have been incorporated only in KINIJIT, a group of which was believed to have then been organized by intellectually mature people. They were geared to promote a strong sense of national unity with diversity as opposed to the woyanes policy of diversity with ethnicity policy.

Woyayes have never refrained from striving to sustain their grip of political power through their irresponsible act of deploying public resources for the shame of fulfilling narrow-framed party objectives. An excellent example worth mentioning in this regard is the attempt of the Prime Minister Meles Zenawi like to be every thing and cultivate that sense of “...knows every thing” among its party members and beyond. Woyanes supporters are pushing hard in different occasions us to believe them that the Premier is one that is to be proud of, well-recognized continentally as well as globally, intellectually dynamic and most concerned of Ethiopia’s backwardness and determined to bring about development.

Above all, the Primer himself is orchestrating his scope of capability and brilliance by adopting a variety of tactics such as exposing himself to briefs of national and international media on a wide spectrum of domestic and sometimes global issues. He is also engaging himself in regional and continental summits, undermining national issues and concerns when they are raised by citizens and opposition members of parliament, acting independently on handling issues of national concern. He often times anonymously publishes articles backing his views and line of argument on local and cross border publications, collects certificates of educational achievement by pursuing masters degree and or PhD’s while in office. Besides, Woyanes have never stopped from trying to narrow the wide gap unfolded due to the last election by intensification of training members in the so called Civil Service College and assigning them after graduation on strategic posits. They also shape up the opening and working structures of new universities along cheap political gains. That is why there seems to exist a tendency to put more trust and favor on students graduating from such new universities in offering chance to work in government offices.

What do all these foretell about Woyanes intent for the next election? They will never refrain from sustaining their power by riding through the danger zone of public screening and facing hullabaloo.

First of all, it is impossible to know wheather weyane is telling the truth or lying as usual. But to fabricate a story about a coup is for weyane inadvertently reminding some members of the army to give it a try, because weyane cannot think deep and far. If it is true, once a coup has been tried, regardless of the time it takes it will happen again and again untill weyane is kicked out of our palace. As the Amharic saying goes "yetenekaneke tirs saywelk ayarfm", which translates to "loose tooth eventually will come off". Known for it's short sightedness, weyane says and does things what it thinks would be benefitial to help it stay in power. So, the coup story could be real or weyane's fabrication, or may be it is just a nightmare which is making it sleepless throughout.
