Why we are angry at Eng. Hailu now?

Postby shalom on Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:14 am

It seems absurd all of the sudden the Diaspora become angry at Eng. Hailu, is it because he had hand shake with the most ruthless dictator or has he changed his non-violent struggle dogma?

Apparently, Eng. Hailu precisely assert about his peaceful struggle and willing to go back to Ethiopia and continue his political struggle in non-violent way, so what is new to make us upset and vilify him.
Seemingly, it is a simple fact that anyone who support peacefully struggle in either way would face the incumbent government and try to work the circumstance in peaceful way. And, surely what Eng. Hailu is doing right now, because he believes in non-violent struggle.

Handshake with Melese does not justify uproar against Eng. Hailu, as he is initially decided to have peaceful struggle, he should try to calm the situation and consider reconciliation, which is the proper action of non-violent struggle believers.

Indeed, those who are opposing the non-violent fiasco should have raised their voice when Eng. Hailu decided to go back home and continue his non-violent struggle, instead of vilifying him now, because he has done what he believed initially. It seems we are awake from our deep sleep.

I think most of us are upset because he had handshake with Melese, nevertheless, it should be expected for any political leader who wants to have peaceful struggle. The fact is you can not conduct peaceful struggle unless you are trying to compromise with the serving government.
Seemingly, emotion plays a big rule than reason and logic that is why we tend to comprehend things very late.
In general, Eng. Hailu’s peaceful struggle does not have any favorable ground in the current Ethiopia, which military, security forces and key government offices are controlled by the fanatic Tigrains and serving their own interest only.
Eng. Hailu is trying to push the water uphill and of course he would not be successful, but regret later about his hopeless endeavor.
Peace!!!

Peaceful struggle is already dead long time ago. When a ruthless leader wants his way and don't want to accept others opinion, it is time to close the chapter and see other options. Most political observers already said " Meles will stay in power for another 5 years." It is a done deal whether we like it or not. No one is going to expect this corrupt leader Meles Z. is going to loose the coming election. He is not going to give up power and move on. Only naive leaders Like Engineer Hailu will listen to him and follow his instruction in order to survive. If you we call this a peaceful struggle, I am living in a small world.

Those individuals who believe in peaceful struggle are entitled to their belief, no matter what your interpretation would be; how ever, my point is that why we are angry right now, while Eng. Hailu declared to go back to Ethiopia and work with the dictator long time ago.

I personally do not support non-violent struggle in Ethiopia as long as weyane controlled everything.
As you said, some naïve individuals who are expecting to harvest the dove from the snake egg would assume that peaceful struggle is possible at this circumstance.

Seemingly, the peaceful struggle believers deliberately refused to see the fact and instead they are trying to make the impossible possible, which is a waste of time and energy.
Most likely, some of them also motivated by their ego and selfish interest, and prioritize their self satisfaction instead of the welfare of the masses.

Anyhow, as you said the peaceful struggle is of course unfeasible in Ethiopia, as the tyrants refuse to allow the opposition groups without any precondition, so the only choice we have is armed struggle or insurrection.

Once Mandela was asked by the apartheid rulers to stop the violence conducted by ANC, he told them that the struggle is dictated by the oppressor but not the oppressed, so if you guys wanted peace let us have it and stop your despotic action, otherwise nothing stop us using the method we want to secure our freedom.

It seems a right answer and it works for the current Ethiopian condition.
We need militant leaders who can establish good connection with the masses and mobilize us from north to south and east to west.
Peace!!!

Shalom,
All Ethiopian opposition groups have the right to have a peaceful struggle by any means.
If you tell me AEUP groups called this as peaceful struggle, I am not going to buy it. I don't have any kind trust for Engineer Hailu right now. He disappointed me and I am completely shocked by his move. I can't expalin what I feel right now. I supported him all the way in 2005.
Every thing is gone now. I see him another opporotunist AEUP leader.
The question is what don’t we know about Hailu Shawel? Is he a born opportunist who will say anything and do anything to have that “honorable” title and the power that comes along with it?

I couldn't agree more.

I do not think so you got my point, but what I am trying to say is that he is entitled for his own belief no matter what we think about him.
Peaceful struggle is not presenting your case in peaceful way or challenge the incumbent government in non-violent way.
Here, I am not saying that Eng. Hailu’s move is a correct, but my question is why all of the sudden we are angry at him now, knowing that he had making his case clear long time ago, and declared as a vanguard of peaceful struggle.
I have not endorsed anyone who is supporting peaceful struggle against weyane, because weyane is not a kind of organization you could have civil discourse, but it is a group of savage pitiless thugs.
Seemingly the cry of Diaspora is too late, instead we should evaluate our character and figure out who deserves our support.
Peace!!!

Shalom- if my memory is correct, You were undecided long time ago when I asked the question. Still you are undecided now. I am wondering who is in your mind that you can support and trust. Thanks

why are non supporters of AEUP so concerned for its failure, they are for its failure after all. If the techniques and strategy of AEUP does not work, it is the failure of AEUP and its supporters. How can an organization expected to follow the advise of an opponent? Isn't that absurd? AEUP has decided to fight it to the end. At this time, Medrek and G& supporters should concentrate on advising their own organizations, and should not expect their opponent to take advise from them.

The next goal for AEUP should be to curtail the time bomb planted by Woyane by making ethnic politics history, and Medrek dissolve by itself. Let's accept the fact that ethnic organizations bring Ethiopia the most danger. Medrek is a collection of bunch of ethnic partys, Merara-Oromo, Gebru-Tigre, Beyene-Hadiya, Andenet-Amhara.

I do not necessary support any particualr group to advocate justice, equlity and freedom in ethiopia.
supporting any particular group is not a must but a willing of individuals.
I hope by now you have an idea about my stand in term of weyane.
If not I ma a strong opponent of either peaceful or non-violent struggle.
As I said in the past that advocating peacefull struggle is the same as encouraging people to put their head in the mouth of the starved lion, so that I completly reject the peacefull struggle fiasco.
I do not also appreciate the ethnic politics of some ethiopian political organizations.
I belive everyone should be judged by his merit, instead of tribal connection or blood realationship.
Tribalism is the enmy of market and indivdual right.
Peace!!!
