Postby elias on Wed Sep 03, 2008 11:33 am

Selam all

Ethiopian Review is preparing its List of 25 Most Influential Ethiopians as we receive the Ethiopian New Year on September 11 (Meskerem 1). The list will include 25 persons who are influencing (for good or bad) the political, social, cultural, economic life of Ethiopia. I would like to offer this forum a chance to have its input before we make the list public next week. Please include your explanation. This list is different from the 'Person of the Year' we publish every January.

Thanks.

Even though i am an Eritrean...Let me tell you my list.

Hatsey Theodros....The only leader who died with his honor intact and more importantly, he never betrayed any one unlike Yohannes and Melelik. Or the slave mengistu who run away when the kitchen start to get hot

The second one must be Abebe Bekila, the first sub Sahran African to win the Gold medal in the Olympic.

In third place, Liya Kebede, Unless some one is a queer like Belaynesh..The girl is hot and she promote her country in a very good fashion and unlike some African models who marry outside their country men, she is at least married with her country man [i am a tribalist and i am damn proud of it]

in fourth place. Meseret Defar, There is some thing about this mother who make her one of my one favorite athlet....Haile Gebreselasie is ugly and now days he is starting to sniff the Woyane arse.....And Kenisa bekila, he killed his fiancy For heaven sake.

Honorable mention.....Deratu Tilu, Fitta Bayesa

In politics, all current Ethiopians political leaders are cunt, and they dont deserv any mention.

Hawi,

The List is not about historical figures. It is about individuals who are currently active.

I agree that Liya Kebede may need to be included in the list.

Thanks

Finot why you delete your post?

I say Merara Gudina & Bulcha Demeqsaa for standing up for their people rights by facing the tyrant head on.

I agree with Hawi - Liya Kebede

Tirunesh for making her country proud.

Most influential Ethiopians in history should be:
1.Melese Zenawi, of course for destroying the country and advancing mistrust and hate between Ethiopian tribes.
2.Tilahun Gesese being irreplaceable and gifted entertainer of our time.
3.Dr. berhanu Nega and Andargachew Tsege for being not only the most destructive political activist but also spreading Amharaphobic ideology and associated any shortcoming the country encounter in the past as well as the present with Amhara.
4.Mersha Yoseph and Iyasu Alemayehu for being the leader of EPRP and the icon of the Ethiopian student’s struggle who have fought the feudal regime of Hailslase and the military junta of mengistu hailemariam and yet, fighting the tribal war lords of narrow Tigrains with determination.
5.Negede Gobeze for being the surviving leader of Meison.
6.Wezero Azebe for being a wife of notorious Melese Zenawi and also engaging some fraudulent activity to misdirect the country’s money to her own personally bank account. And also for being the richest women in Ethiopian history with very expensive western style building in Addis and own so many business institution.
7.Tigabu Muche: the peasant from Gondar who killed more than 400 weyane fighters in several confrontations around Limalimo, Zerima and Tselemit area, finally he killed himself while he was surrounded by weyane. He is considered as second tewodros in Gondar.
8.Sibhat nega: being a father of mischief and hate.
9.Poor Tamirat Layne: for being nothing more than the tool of TPLF
10.Eng. Hailu shawl: for a leader of true Ethiopians who are fighting against the tribal regime.
11.OLF, ONLF and EPPF leaders who are fighting the tribal regime of Melese Zenawi with fortitude.

Most influential people in Ethiopia:

1. Meles Zenawi - for sacrificing 153,000 Ethiopians in a senseless war with Eritrea between 1998-2000.
- for invading Somalia and displacing millions and losing thousands of his soldiers in the process.
- for massacring tenth of thousands of innocent people (Ogadien,Awassa,Benshangusl, Addis 2005,Oromos
etc) starting from 1991.
- for keeping the country under poverty line (Hunger, disease) although
the country receives billions of dollars in aid each year and the fact that he couldn't use the
abundant resources Ethiopia owns. No one would expect Ethiopians to go hungry even for a single
day after 17 years of rule while they
own so many rivers that could easily be used to feed thousands of hectares of land.
- for benefiting only Tigray while people in different parts of the country don't have the basic necessities
such as health centres, school, water, electricity etc

2. There are singers, politicians, businessmen, academicians etc who have big influence over the lives of Ethiopians... but IMO Meles is the only person who could influence (in a bad way) those influential people and the people of Ethiopia at large

Meles Zenawi.

like him or not , he is on top

Al amoudi...

he has poured more money into the nation than any individual Ethiopian ever.

Ethiopian runners

they brought joy to the Ethiopian people .This days, that is all the joy Ethiopians can salvage.

YEBANDAMERZE.

For his tireless effort in exposing worthless Shabias like Ghion and Jason, who tried to use this forum to advance the hate messages of the [deleted] Eritrean dictator Diablos, AKA Isayas Afewerki.

norge,

Doma Ras! After a long silence you came out name calling and insulting good people.

From all the people, you the supporter of Andy Tsigie & Dr. Nega - the most destructive force of the democracy movement, is throwing dirt on a man who spent most of his life including 6 years in prison for Ethiopia. Why can't you find something tangible to talk and do. Have you not screamed and insult people for the BBBs who are now polticaly dead? The current crissis and crime by Zenawi will pass. And the true children of Ethiopia will all go back to Ethiopia to work and live - but that does not include the serepeant and the opportunstic Andy & Nega.

Elias,

Though I believe I should refrain from commenting in this thread, I could not resist my desire to suggest that your title is little bit broad. You should try to make it more specific. Like those influential people in positive way, or politically influential people, or influential people in shaping the Ethiopian struggle, or influential people in uniting Ethiopians, or influential people with their skills in sport and art. Something like that. Just an idea!
The truth prevails!!

Who said Birtukan is my Queen? I am for the movement not for individual. Who ever is bringing a workable good idea, that is my hero. For now Birtukan is out of touch. She has done one fundamental error; apolgizing to the Golden races. Like one of the Judge said in the old days " Mat'fatunes Balabat Atftual, Mekassun Gen Gebere Yikass!"

Individuals who have cast dark shadows on Ethiopia

1. Meles Zenawi – single-handedly made the country suffer through famine, wars, economic stagnation, system of divide and rule and ethnic politics
2. Seyoum Mesfin – Zenawis’s right hand man in deceit and lies;
3. Berket Simon – Zenawis’ version of Joseph Goebelles; Minister of misinformation
4. Sebhat Nega – father of TPLF, enough said
5. Sheikh Al-amoudi – a corrupt businessman who introduced western decadence
6. Ilias Redman – Head of the Ethiopian Muslim Council and a government stooge who brought shame and dishonor to the Ethiopian Muslims
7. The leadership of Mahbere Kudusan – An arm of the TPLF that is sowing hatred and animosity among Ethiopian Christians as well as between Christians and Muslims too
8. Samuel Assefa – A habitual drunk Woyane ambassador who sold his soul and intellect for a postion of power
9. Hailu Shawal – An old political hack who did not see anything wrong in serving under the Dergue regime but who single-handedly divided and destroyed CUD
10. Iyassu Alemayehu – Again, an old-political hack who made EPRP irrelevant and succeeded in dividing it further making it obsolete
11. Girma W/Giorgis – Ceremonial stooge president of Ethiopia who will likely die of over-eating
12. Azeb Mesfin – wife of Meles Zenawi and the woman behind the evil deed of Meles – again, enough said

Individuals who tried to bring hope and freedom for Ethiopia

1. Berhanu Nega – Leader of Ginbot7; a man who has always fought for the downtrodden and those whose voice can not be heard
2. Alemayehu G/Mariam – another great Ethiopian who used his intellect and everything at his disposal to further the cause of the masses
3. Daud Ibsa – A principled man who had fought for the rights of the Oromo people as well as all Ethiopians all his life.
4. Aba Biya Aba Jifar – Another great Ethiopian who spent more than ten years in jail for the rights of all Ethiopians
5. Mohammed Osman – A Somali Ethiopian who is fighting for the cause of the Ogaden people with a principled dedication
6. Beyene Betros – A man of principle who is doing the real fight right under the nose of the dictator Meles, The same goes for Merara Gudina, Birtukan Mideksa and Dr. Hailu
7. Kenenisa Bekele – a real lion who made all of us proud
8. Tirunesh Dibaba – a lioness who made a mockery of the competition
9. Tedy Afro – an entertainer who is languishing in the Woyane jail not for a crime but for a cause
10. Elias Kifle- arguably the most controversial and opinionated diaspora journalist but no one could question his integrity, dedication and love for his country
11. The group of lawyers who prepared the report on the 2005 massacre – Brave Ethiopians who sacrificed everything to tell the whole truth about what happened on that sad day
12. Haile Gerima- A man of high principle and unparalleled integrity. He could have made it big in Hollywood but chose to be independent and tell his own story in his way. Congratulations on your recent award for Teza.
13. Obang Meth- A study in what it means to be a human being. A brave Ethiopian who is able to see beyond ethnic and reglious divide and made it his cause to fight for it to the finish.

Well, Elias, there you have the 25 most influential Ethiopian on both sides of evil and good. And that is, in my humble opinion.

Dan,

4 Kilo, I share your admiration for HS, but take it easy bro. Don't lash out on people.

I trust him. Period. Ethiopia under his adminstration will not flinch away an iota of vital interest to anybody. The guy demonstrated in his profession in the field of constructing the country very well. And also to some extent he showed Ethiopians on what he can do in poltics.

Flip the coin, I don't trust none of the so called intelectual polticians like Dr. Nega, Mesfin w/m, Yacob, Beyene pertos etc. If they are in a postion, they will sell the country to the highest bidder. You don't have to go too far for the evidence. Dr. Nega sold the Kinijit movement to Tim Clarke and Zenawi behind the back of the Ethiopian people when the uprise was in full gear. He went on on destroying the movement and creating his own G7 which can not do anything except talk. Mesfin w/m can't even learn from the opposition in Kenya and Zimbabvwe. Instead of confronting the tyrannt by standing with the people - he went on an internation tour to ask the Diaspora to recognize Zenawi as a poltical partner. He said he is not the enemy. Today Mesf w/m's enemies are Dr. Nega & Hailu Shawel. etc.

As usual, the Doma Ras Ethiopians will wake up when the wind die down after inflicting a lot of damage.
