Ethiopia & Coffee

Post by DefendTheTruth » 09 May 2024, 14:22

Currently the world market size of coffee is around $ 132 Billion, according to one of the estimates available on the internet. Ethiopia earned around $ 850 Million in 9 months of the year from selling coffee, a report that came out recently indicated. If extrapolated for the year, it could be around just $ 1 Billion annually.

Ethiopia is the 6th biggest producer of Coffee in the world on the production scale. Taking only this two parameters into account, it is not difficult to assume that Ethiopia is not getting its true share of the pie (in this case $ 132 Billion, it is expected to reach around $166 Billion in the coming 5 years, 2029). It is also not difficult that the major share of the revenue is earned by those in the value creation chain of the product, like coffee houses and other logistical services of the production chain. Even if just one third of the total value was to be earned by the producers, then that alone could be over $ 40 Billion. Still the gap is too wide, to say the least, for the 6th producer to just earn around $1 Billion.

What is failing us to have our share of the pie? It could be many things but one of them is just the sheer laziness of the citizens, like those on this forum. More than those on this forum those who are good at gun toting but null at working and producing are the worst and most liability factor of the country.

Nothing new! Almost every adult person knows "Buna! Buna! morning Ads. song" just like Ababa Tesfaye's "Lijochiye". The single most important source of export revenue is "Coffee" or Buna. The only time in the history of modern economy, Ethiopia has positive balance of trade was during Emperor Haileselassie, at least twice. Other than that Ethiopia's balance of trade is "Negative" or below zero. The population has grown, and yet the money that should be invested in heavy industries and knowledge industry has been spent to buy weapons so as to kill Amhara people, since Woyane rats and now under OLF-PP. Even when TPLF and OLF received aid in the name of Ethiopia, they deposit in off shore account. The African Development Bank which recently complained outright theft and one of Orommuma's priest attempted to siphoned off millions proved how much the country is struggling, let alone think of investment and growth.የሚፈለገው ህዝቡ ዘላን ሁኖ እንድኖር እንጅ ተረጋግቶ አርሶ፤ አምርቶ ወይም በኢንዱስትሪ በለጽጎ እንድታይ አይደለም።

Ethiopia is not only risk for investment but a dangerous place to do ordinary businesses. The system is neither capitalist market economy nor socialist, it is herd instinct crowd known as "Kegna"; i.e. cannibalize all non-Oromos, including their wealth, property.
