While I was here in distant, I used to hear and read the proliferation of Moslem mosques all over the country, but in my recent trip what I observed wass to the contrary. Orthodox churches painted Green, Yellow, and Red, which is to be the color of the national flag are being built in less than half mile apart across the country. Mind you, in regions like Afar, Harrar and Ogaden in which less than 10% of Christian s are dwelling at, you see churches are mushrooming incredibly. Mind you again, in a country of an estimated 35 to 45% moslem population, every the corner stone of the newly building church that contains the color of the national flag are clearly be seen in hundreds. What a message that sends to those tens of Millions of Moslem Ethiopians? The green, yellow and red flag is meant reserved for Orthodox Christians alone? I have never imagined in my life such Christian fanaticism and aggression would one day take place in our modern day Ethiopia, and I don’t really understand either the source of the frustration for Orthodox church to put itself in such state of aggression. Little I heard was that pentes are snatching Orthodox followers in alarming rate but that still nothing justifies for Moslems to fall a victim under orthodox church expansionism. At every new housing construction sites you find a church with trio color. Moreover, what shocked me most was that right at the adjacent of four decade old Moslem cemetery, kolfe Axena tera area in Addis Ababa, you see while a church with its three huge domes is being built. Nothing spared and why particularly at that spot? What about if Moslems attempted to erect their Mosque near by Selasie or Qidus yosef Mekane Maqabir? Would that be acceptable for we christians? I don’t think so. If Meles administration is knowingly blind folded to appease Amharas and few shoa Christians while the show is running under his nose, I would say this is a dammn political prostitution. As a secular government, if not acting prematurely and decisively in order to preserve secularism by reversing an act of expansionism that will emerge by any religious group, Meles’ legacy would be ugly regardless of what.
