Hammasenites are humans like you, you know it is wrong to hate innocent people because the two regimes are at odds.

Really.... But when Ethiopians were trashed out day and night on this very forum, I didn't see a Weley came to defend on their behalves, was that because Ethiopians were not humans but animals?

They have nothing against Ethiopians, their enmity is with Woyane. Don't expect me to defend Woyane.

An Eritrean Athlete seeks political asylum in the UK.

An Eritrean Athlete, Weynay Ghebresilasie, who competed in men’s 3000m Steeplechase in the London Olympics 2012, seeks political asylum in the UK.

Weynay confirmed his decision in an interview with Assenna.com today afternoon, August 14th, 2012.

The 19 years old Eritrean athlete who has been serving in the open ended military service after being forcibly conscripted said that the excessive dictatorial system of government in Eritrea, which uses fear and intimidation as a tool of control to maintain political power has made it too difficult for him to realise his dream as an athlete.

Explaining the reason behind his decision to seek asylum in the UK, “In Eritrea there is luck of personal freedom and basic human rights; there is no ground for people like me to fulfil their potential” he said.

The endless military service which amounts to slavery has also become “intolerable” for Weynay and thus he was forced to remain in the UK.

According to Weynay, as the personnel assigned in the athletics federation are political appointees of the government, there is crude mismanagement in the whole athletics operation. There is no proper training while the medical attention given to the athletes is very minimal. The little progress achieved by Eritrean athletes over the years is the result of personal hard work and dedication of the individual athletes themselves rather than the government’s support. He even remembered an occasion where he had to pay from his own pocket to travel abroad to compete in international events representing the country.

Assenna.com will publish Weynay’s interview online in a short while.

According to other sources, there are unconfirmed reports that a female marathon runner, Rehaset Mehari; secretary of the athletics federation Jemil Siraj and a trainer, Abebe Zerihun have also sought asylum in the UK. We will follow up their circumstances and provide you with news update regarding to the last three individuals who participated in the London 2012 Olympics representing Eritrea.
