Why the Young Ethiopians are apolitical?

Postby Tia » 09 Jan 2012, 13:27

The vast majority of young Ethiopians in the Diaspora seem to be timid to engage in the Ethiopian politics. Their disengagement is not due to lack of information regarding the dismal political and economic conditions of the country; after all, most of them go in and out of Ethiopia frequently enough to see the sufferings of their fellow citizens.

So tell me what needs to happen to awaken the political and social consciousness of young Ethiopians abroad so they use their untapped potential to positively change the political landscape of Ethiopia.

The only answer to this question is, they are less infrmed and lied more to. Ethiopia has 80 million people and only 2.5 million people run the economy and politics of the country. That should tell you something.

the ethiopian youth has lost the culture of their fathers. They know how to dance and to have fun, but they have lost the value of being ethiopain. They act, think, behave like the west. Instead of being real proud of beeing ethiopian, they associate their culture value with american Stars like Beyounce, Black Eye Pea........The feel more proud of organizing an international conzert than being an erthiopian. I have many ethiopan friends and their love to their motherland ends at the entry door of their appartemnet. I am not saying that they dont love their homeland, but its has no substance. There is no passion. They have no value to uphold, except their deeply and honest believe in god.

The ethiopian youth can do 3 thing: 1. Having fun 2. going to church 3. trieng to be like the west

The ethiopian youth have no commitement for politcal issues. Its sad but true

On the contrary the most of the eritrean youth find their identitity through political involvement.

"Building a Developed & Secured Eritrea calls for Conscious and Dynamic Youth in a World undergoing Transformation"

During the five day Nacfa Conference, cultural identity, building efficient political and democratic programs in the nation building process and reinforcing economic progress, among others were discussed in depth. Eritrean nationals from inside the country, Middle East, Africa, Europe, America, Canada, Australia and Asia took part in the conference.

They also visited the trenches in Nacfa at Emba Denden, Fidel P, Vollyball, Harena, which they received briefings on the history of the armed struggle for liberation.

After a week of discussion , intense debate and a successful work plan with 650 Youth from all over the world and every sector in the country , it was finally time express the joy - here is a video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg9cFkMgSVQ

Information is widely available to this group in the Diaspora, why should they not take their time to learn and be informed? Shouldn't we stop making excuses for them?

the Eritrean youth

You said, "The ethiopian youth can do 3 thing: 1. Having fun 2. going to church 3. trieng to be like the west"
Having fund and going to church should not prevent them from their civic duties, right?

In the past 40 years Ethiopian youths especially who were visionaries to see a unified and democratic Ethiopia, had been either jailed or killed by the dictators/ by respective rulers. In other words they were not given the chance to come together and participate in their country's politics. In addition, Ethiopian youths had been divided by the propaganda of the so called Liberation Frontiers , and external Ethiopian enemies in one way or another who do not want to see Ethiopian unity. So, Ethiopian youths need people and time to bring them together in order to participate in their country's politics.

It is because of many reasons: first their parents don't encourage their children to learn about their history but those that do have a grasp of their past are intrested and stimulated in todays politics.
