Do you believe there is some kind of neo-colonial conspiracy aimed at exterminating the people of the Horn of Africa region, to deplete its young generation in particular, in order to pillage the region's rich natural resources? Something is terribly wrong in our side of the world. The Ethio man in the video said he got sold 5 times for $50 to 5 different human traffickers on the treacherous voyage. And this is also happening to migrants from Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia...etc. It's a modern-day slave trade.

Amazing how Ethiopians were willing to be sold like slaves. They all came out of Ethiopia on their own will, I am not going to blame anyof the traders, for they have found a commodity that was profitable. Ethiopian sold fince times 50 Dinar each time. This is truly a funny story but real. How sad, I have a feeling TPLF had a cut from each exchange of money.

The western media and holywood are giving people false hopes. Add to that the brutality in Woyanes Ethiopia and the alarming population growth in a country dependent on aid for its very survival the situation will only get worse. According to statisticians by 2025 Ethiopian population will approach 150 million. With the Woy-anes at the helm we can only expect 'government' sanctioned looting of the meager resources. At this rate, I think even the sponsors of the Woy-anes are alarmed at the prospect.

You're very wrong there. None of the refugees really knew what fate awaited them in their journey. They all fled their home country seeking greener pastures abroad, and they couldn't have possibly heard of the horrors they were about to encounter later, or else they would have never ever set foot outside their home country.

The human traffickers have an extensive networks and agents in target countries to entice young people with promises of a better life abroad. Its a criminal business enterprise and they're not under any obligation to inform their prey of the risks involved. And in some cases, the human trafficking syndicate is run by the rich and powerful nations that stand to gain from depleting the number of military-age young people in certain Third world countries. For instance, if an Ethiopian victim from the Ogaden region or a Sudanese victim from the Darfur fleeing the genocide in their respective countries arrive in Israel, they're subject to indefinite detention. But if an Eritrean draft dodger or army deserter arrives in Israel, the person is given an automatic 6-month work and residence permit - no questions asked. And here is the mother of all ironies, desertion or draft evasion from Israeli military service carries a penalty of two to five years' imprisonment. As you can see, it's all about the super-power politics in our region where the young people fall through the cracks.

A former US Congresswoman and the 2008 presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, during her incarceration in an Israeli jail for taking part in the Free Gaza Flotilla to Gaza that was intercepted by the Israeli Navy, she said the following on a phone interview from her jail cell.

“... I've learned an interesting thing by being inside this prison. First of all, it's incredibly black: populated mostly by Ethiopians who also had a dream ... like my cellmates, one who is pregnant. They are all are in their twenties. They thought they were coming to the Holy Land. They had a dream that their lives would be better ... The once proud, never colonized Ethiopia [has been thrown into] the back pocket of the United States, and become a place of torture, rendition, and occupation. Ethiopians must free their country because superpower politics [have] become more important than human rights and self-determination."

Africa’s top oil producer, Nigeria has a population of 150 million people, making it the 7th most populous country in the world. It earns $60 billion dollars in annual revenue from its oil exports. But despite its oil riches, 70% of the country's population live below the poverty line because of grand corruption and unequal distribution of wealth. 1% of the population control 90% of Nigeria's resources.

Yes it's true that there are 41 state-owned universities in Nigeria, producing tens of thousands of graduates every year, and yet the country suffers a massive brain drain due to lack of employment opportunities, where most of the graduates are forced to flee overseas to work as taxi cab drivers and parking lot attendants in Western capitals. The Nigerian government spends several thousand dollars educating a student, to only see the student go overseas and take menial jobs of absolutely no relevance to the skills he/she had acquired at university.

That's also exactly what's happening in Ethiopia today. There are more Ethiopian doctors in the Chicago area than there are in Ethiopia. That is very alarming. I can only imagine how worse it will get by 2025. Let's hope for a sensible government with Ethiopia's best interest at heart to come to power next.

The other day we received a preliminary audit report prepared for discussion not a final report on Mekelle University (MU). Corruption must be fought hard but we must be careful we do not harm our institutions and individuals falsely! Here below is a response from an official within MU to our inquiry. The response is not an official response!

"Thanks for your mail. The mail you got is to deliberately create confusion and try to damage the image the university, especially for people with no idea of the context. This federal audit was a very first draft before an exit report. The auditors did not get some documents in the first place and wrote such a very first draft to get the attention of the higher management. This is always case and a normal practice in auditing. Then we had a discussion at a higher level and instructed the relevant bodies to provide the necessary documents. Accordingly almost all the points were rectified. Hence, I do not think this deserves attention.
By the way, the university is in good shape but with many challenges. We are trying to correct wrong deeds, ensure accountably and transparency. However, there are people who will cry foul when you do that as well.
