Iphone is annoying even here for it got short battery life.
Second Your Ethiopian friends never appreciate it as they can not purchase the apps for which you need Dollars on cerdit card. China gave our people what they need. When at home I threw away my iphone and bought china phone. Let me tellyou what I had on that phone.
Flash light which you can not get on iphone and very important Ethiopia. Second camera
Third big speakers for African style music hearing. In Africa every body opens his own music not to do so may put you in uncivilized peasant class. So make sure your phon audio is good. Your I phone is ade to be used with earphone. Ofcourse it got phone andother features. The chinees phon cost you $30.00 only. I phone even secondhand may cost you 300 Dollars. Give the iphone money for about 7 people and tell then to buy phones than wasting 600 on two which is not appreciated any way.

ZEMEN wrote:Aragaw, thanks man I really appreciate that, thank you. Aragaw, can you also ask him if it is cheaper to buy it there than in here, The USA. I am thinking if the price is reasonably close, it might be good idea just to give them the money and they can buy what they want.
Thanks man.

ZEMEN
He said it is better to buy it here and you can get good deals on Craigslist. But you never know. The way this crazy market works may be China will flood the market by the the time you get there.

My brother email me the following. I hope it will help.

what he needs to do before he buys the phone is to make sure the iphone is unlocked and preferably jail-broken. the type of iphones that work are iphone 3, 3gs, and maybe 4. I don't think the new 4s will work over there. if he ends up buying iphone 4, he needs to cut and carve the sim card to fit the phone since it only takes mini-sim cards... in my opinion, if he is taking the phone for personal use, he should just get the 3 or the 3gs...

I'm not sure all of them are open. It is good to be certain and check with vendor.

I kind of agree with bewendimu..iPhone is for show off ..I do not like I phone for the very dame reason the battery dies quickly and its has some annoying programs which I barely use em. Android phone is servicing my purpose and I am happy with it. The only reason I suggest Ethiopian at home to have iPhone is to make calls from Addis to USA. Once they upload this software, easy to call long distance with out worrying about the charges..

Aragaw, thanks man. I really appreciated it. Let me see what I can do. I think it is more complicated than I have anticipated and your help is greatly appreciated.
Anyway, here is what I found out so far. The must be unlocked so and SIM carded because other ways it won’t work. I get that and what I learn is that the phone must also be jailbroken; meaning they can add what ever you want and even make long free distance calls, like Minelik was talking. I think I am starting to get it. Thanks guys. I am digging and I will let you know. thanks

Bewendumu, Now, you are talking sense on this senseless Idea but my people have this enormous expectation and I am done arguing with them. But I do agree with you.
