Thanks deqi arawit. This brought back memories. Thanks Dehai also for putting together a decent biography. Thanks also to MelaAke Tekle, may he live on forever.

Deqi,

I hate to bring Eritrean civil war here, but the truth is , it was not Abdela Idris who is ultimately responsible for the death of the heroic Melake Tekle but the whimpy Ahmed Nasser. Let me elaborate, when EPLF pushed ELF toward Sudan, the Sudanese government demanded for ELF to surrender its armaments.(Mengistu was in cozy relations with Beshir at the time) Ahmed Nasser, the chairman consented. Abdela Idriss, the ultimate renegade refused. During the national conference, Abdella attempted cout d'etat to keep the armaments in ELF hands. True to himself, Melake angered by Abdella's violent method (subversive act) confronted and fell to Abdella's well planned hit. Melake always did everything by the book. That is the very reason even PIA holds a great admiration for him. Abdela fought for Eritrean independence since he was thirteen years old. He was more or less Awate's baby during the inception of the struggle. He was not about religion like some people would like to paint him with. The whimpish Ahmed Nasser's ineffective and divisive leadership is one of the main reason the great ELF disappeared from the scene. Don't forget, it was Abdela who voted for independence in 1991 while Ahmed Nasser and co. abstained.

Peace

I might be wrong, but I think Beshier wasn't even in power back then? As to who killed Melake Tekle? I believe all the mesirable riffraffs who are now licking Meles' vomit in general are responsible not only for the life of Melake Tecle, but also for the thousands of Melake like unsung heroes. The finger should be pointed at all the old dying drunkard, criminals and pimps who frequent Addis Ababa's red light district in search of innocent teenages? Old habit die hard.

Meron and Yoha,

You guys are right, Numeri was still the president of Sudan. However, I thought the heroic Melake was shot in the heat of the moment. If Abdella planned to eliminate Melake first, perhaps he knew if anyone was capable of foiling his plan it was Melake, but he had a lot of respect for him. As a matter of fact, both Melake and Abdella were the most patriotic and heroic in the leadership. Abdella loathed Ahmed Nasser for the right reasons. The man was a wimp. If anything, the rifrafs in Addis were Nasser's wimpish leadership products.

Peace

Hardliner.
Abdela Idris was an Arab puppet who even tried to impose Sharia law in the Eritrean lowland by passing a directive urging women not to make Suwa..Plus Jebha under his leadership was in the hand of the Saudi Arabian intelligence service. Read the book..Ferdi Gobo Arey by Michael Adonai, and you will get some bigger picture how Abdela idris tried to make us Arabs.

As far as Melaake Tekle...He was emotional....At one episode...He entered a conference room with a gun concealed under his hat...Once Abdela Idris made some comments which was not in line with Melaake Tekle...He took out the gun from his hat and threatned to kill Abdela Idris..but unfortunately, he didnt kill him when he got his chance...He calmed down.......As a result Abdela had the last laugh when he killed him in kassala sudan.
